The final for Eurovision 2010 is going to hit Aussie tv today (Sunday) the 30th of May 2010. Aussies can catch it on SBS @ 7:30pm.
I'm a Turk, and no matter how political the votes are, we Turks absolutely love it. It's a nationalistic thing for us, an we exaggerate it more than it deserves. However, we love it because it is something we do as a nation, no matter which country or time zone we reside...
This year's Turkey candidate is Manga, a popular Turkish soft-rock band. I personally like their music as it is usually more soothing and meaningful than the head banging rock music that is common to us. The group will be representing Turkey with "We Could Be The Same". The song is in English despite all the drama that goes on in Turkey each year. Every year it becomes a national matter: should the song be in English or Turkish? So this year it is full English, and I am glad it is as there is a wonderful message given in the song... so it should be heard and understood... As I said, their accent is quite obvious in certain parts of the song, but it don't matter, the message matters!
The SBS Eurovision page currently shows that Turkey is at the top of the chart with over 110,000 votes, but that doesn't really mean anything... it just depends what vote the countries will give...
The group was clever to participate with such a song - the lyrics are all about world peace and emphasizing that we are very similar rather than different... so if you don't give a good vote, sort of means you are against world peace? LOL Maybe not so, but anywayyyysss... I hope Turkey wins LOL but I really think they rock! Seriously! Not ONLY cos I'm a Turk ;))))))))))
Here is the Manga Eurovision 2010 song:
