Polka-Mania

I have just noticed that I have been going polkadot crazy. I actually used to hate polkadots with a passion.. until this year... Now it seems that every hijab I pick up to wear has polkadots.

Yeah sooo whatever. :) The weather is awesome down in Melbourne today. Mashaallah. So yup, I had to go out... to mum's! :) Not too far, but it's an excuse get dressed. :)

My OOTD can be used as an inspiration for a day at the office... at uni... or anywhere really , but I think that a white shirt always reminds me of school or office work. So you can do whatever you like with it. I'm a real sleepy head today and feel drowsy. So I'm talking nonsense.

I will just post the photos and get it over and done with. Happy? You happy = me happy. :)

I tried something a little different on top today. Initially I had the buttons of my shirt all done up... but then I played around with my belt a little... and remembered an open shirt and cardi look I saw on Michelle Obama in the past. I thought yeah why not! I tried the belt over both layers, but because I have a thick waist (and body LOL) it just didn't look good. Then I though I can try the same look just under the cardi which would also allow the cardi to sit loose over the cinching of the waist and the belt. However, one thing that I would change about this look would be WEAR a longer cardi, and WEAR a straight line skirt. It would definitely look better. Ballet flats would look awesome under such and outfit as would kitten heels.

First Lady Style Watch: USA - Michelle Obama and her Belt Fetish

We all know that Michelle Obama, wife to Barrack Obama, the president of the USA is one stylish woman. However, I have noticed something common in most of her outfits. She seems to have a belt fetish much like mine... except without the extra meat onher bones! LOL

I have gone through many of her outfit photos, and I do seem to like those in which she wears belts the most. I also like seeing her use the same belts with different outfits. So just because she is the First Lady of USA, it does not mean that she goes wild on shopping. Yes, she may be investing more in her outfits than the next person, but her reeated use of clothing items and accessories makes me see her in a different light...

Back to the belt...

She wears them mostly over jackets and cardis and also over a simple dress to add some umph to it. :) I think... to wear it over cardis and jackets, you need to have a svelte figure to do so... if you, like myself do not fit into this category, then you can create a svelte shape using belts under cardis and jackets.

So girls, invest in belts... different colours and styles. I think I have over 15 belts at the moment, and plan to have more, because I want them in every colour. :)

Let's take a look at her style... shall we? :)

I really like this look. Very Grace Kelly...

Same belt as the above photo.

Love the dress. A belt once again to jazz up a somewhat plain outfit. Love the 'pose' too :)

Again, same belt as above. You go girl! Also one of my fave outfits of Mrs O. This is the best I have seen of the belt over cardigan look on anybody.

Mrs O looking stunning in yellow... accessorised with a very wide belt. Gives the cardi over shirt look a whole new look.

Lovely; belt and dress same colour combo. Absolutely stunning!

A very chic dress. This woman can pull off any look! Again, the belt over dress...

It seems this cartoonist is also aware of Mrs O's belt 'fetish'. :))

Which is you fave look? Do you use belts often in your outfits? Do you wear belts over or under jackets/cardis? If you have never incorporated a belt in your outfit, would you consider?

New Fashion Trend: Belt Over Cardigans and Jackets

This might not be a really new fashion trend, but I have been seeing it only very recently, so to me it's new!

To be following this new trend, you generally get a skinny belt (or a wide one - but I've usually seen it with the skinny belt) and wear it over your cardigan or jacket. Oh, and the most important thing that you must not forget: do not button your cardi/jacket, because that is the whole purpose, the belt is supposed to do that!

To honest, when I saw some girls wearing it, I thought WTF!!! It looks ewwwww and disgusting and yuckky and pffttttttttt... Sorry if you are a fan, but the ones I saw (real girls in real life) looked appauling. They looked like fashion victims rather than trendy. However, when I Googled this trend, I saw some nice examples too. So instead of chucking on any old cardi or jacket and wrapping any old belt around your waist does not make you trendy. You must look at yourself in the mirror before you leave the house.

Let me get one thing straight; I don't like writing negative things, and I don't really want to put negative things on this blog, but it really upsets me that people try to follow fashion trends just because that's the new trend. Wear it if it looks good on you ladies!!!

After seeing some of the following photos, I slightly changed my idea about this look... but again, it doesn't look good on everybody, and if you are going to do it, do it properly...

I really like Michelle Obama's style (most of the time!), and I really like the way she worked this trend... The longer jacket sure looks good to me! I really really like it!

Scarlet Johanson's take on this trend... Not too bad, but then again, this woman looks gorgeous in anything!

Vintage.. I can't say it's my cup of tea, but doesn't look too awkward...

I didn't really like this one, what do you think?

I really really dislike this one... There is too much of a gap! Sorry Michelle...

Hmm... again, not my cup of tea... I can't say I'm too fond... I think the jacket is rather too bulky for this style, and I really don't like the colour of the belt with this outfit?..

This one, I think is probably one of the best I've seen so far... It looks pretty chic, don't you think? And I absolutely love the colour combo! Hawt hawt hawt I say!

Now this one... LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE!!! This is the look I love!!! Can you tell? :)) Definitely the only way I would wear a belt with a cardi! The way it's meant to be... Or is it?.. Well, to me it is anyway... :)

I think that a pair of jeans or a PLAIN gypsy skirt would look gorgeous under this (the last outfit). And if you are wearing these particular colours in a similar outfit combo, I think a choc brown scarf or even a slightly latte one will look good (plain of course).. You can go with the blue for your scarf, but I think that a brown would add dimension to it, as there are too many blues already... Suit yourself! :)

Which one is your favourite, if any? Have you tried the belt over cardi/jacket style before? What do you think, is it hot or not? Do you have any photos of you in this style and you think you look good? Why don't you send it in?

xoxo
