Friday Night

What a busy day it was today, mashaallah! Had a lot of running around to do and friends to see before leaving Melbourne. Although I do not have an exact date, should be very soon now inshaallah.

Anyhow, as usual, Friday outfit post...

I was invited to dinner at a friend's place. I had Mexican chicken for the first time tonight, and it was amazing! Great food and great company is an excellent combo. :)

Anyhow, it was all girls, at home, so I wanted to be sort of casual and comfy, but didn't want to wear trackies either! :)

So I wore my very comfy harem pants and oversized top. I can't say it's a very good look on my huge arms (just can't get those arms to down size still... they were and still are the biggest part of my body... baaahhh all in good time inshaallah), but it was so comfortable. :)))

I should note (before any haram police comments), I wouldn't wear this outfit like this out in public. I had my coat on when I left home and on my way back. So there! :)

Jummah mubarak.

Turkish women and their Day's

I don't know if this is something specific to Turkish women or if it's practiced by women of other cultures too, but Turkish women have get togethers called "Day".

These days are either once a week/fornight/month. It's a day to get together and dine as well as save money. The women designate an amount, and everyone who wants to participate pays that amount of money every designated DAY. Then they pull names from a hat kinda thing at the beginning ---- before the first installment is paid. So a list of names is formed in accordance with the order the names are pulled.

So on the first get together, the first name invites everyone to her own house on the designated day, and everyone gives their share of the money to the host. Then the next designated day, the same amount of money is given to the second name on the list while she hosts the second get together.

My sis and mum are a part of one of these days. There payment is $200/fortnight. Since they have a lot of women at their day, the collected amount is something a little over $5000. So it's like halal credit... interest free. :))) You get the money on your turn, and pay it off in installments on each day. So yeah, those who are unable to save money, do so in this way. My mum usually uses her share to go on her Turkey holiday every year. Good idea ha? :)

So yeah it was one of those days, and  took mum and attended too as the host was a mutual friend. Well, the DAY calls for getting dressed up too. :) All the ladies look their best. So I put together an outfit too... but as you will see, I have been doing a similar style for the past few posts... should make a difference soon aye? :)))

Princess just wouldn't leave me alone... Seems like she wanted to be in the photo. I think this is a really cute one... we're both posing... unaware of the other :))))

Maxi Cardi: Asos, Orange Jumper Dress: Asos, Jeans: Katies, Black Pumps: Windsor Smith, Hijab: Sarar (from edb Collection), Watch: Guess

She's loving it.... what a poser! :)

Taking Shape In Autumn-Winter

I had mentioned the brand TS14+ Taking Shape in a couple of my much earlier posts. I had a puff skirt which I loved dearly... and sold off on eBay due to size change... Anyways, no need to mourn.. boohooo... I really did love it... but anyway, it's an excuse to buy new stuff aye? ;)

Hmm, well I received the new season catalogue from TS14+ today, and I really liked some of the looks they put together. Well, TS14+ does have some really weird honky donky stuff, BUT you gotta give it to them, they also have some very awesome designs... and their items are usually modest or can be modified to suit the needs of a Muslim woman who tries to dress in accordance with her Code of Faith.

Here are a few of the new season stuffs I like from their catalogue:

I must have this dress! I NEED this dress. :) One of my faves...

The skirt I mentioned (the one I sold off on eBay) was similar to this... just a different print. I know for some such designs may be a turnoff, but I actually qute like this with the cityscape... I might buy one to make up for the loss of the previous one.. but I gotta save save save, as TS14+ items are a TAD expensive. But in all honesty, they use the best quality fabrics and the stitching is always intact. Everything I purchased from TS14+ is in excellent condition despite all the wear and washing. So you are getting your moneys worth. Trust me!

There we go again, the cityscape. I think it's cute. Whatcha think?

Elegante!

The only thing I may have to criticise is the use of colours. Why is it that there is never enough use of lighter colours and pastels for plus size clothing? In the spring-summer season, TS14+ for example had used nude pink for only one dress and a soft grey for one dress. All else were once again black! Arghhh as if plus size women do not want to go along wth the colour trends.  Stuff the trends, can we not ever wear anything other than black, red, and grey? Puhhhhleaaaaase!

Yeah, that was my oly criticism, and I know it's autumn-winter, LOL but that don't mean I wanna be dark and glum all season. :)

Oh, and in case you didn't know, TS14+ caters for sizes 14-24.

Cardigans are the Best

I love em! Throw em over a dress (maxi or mini), a skirt (maxi or mini), trousers or jeans... just anything... and it gives a nice laid back and at the same time a classy look.

I myself am a cardi collector... well, along with blazers. :))) Anyways, thought I would share. :)

I absolutely love tan accessories! I think everyone should have one... or a few tan bags :))) It just adds something that black accessories can't do... Oh and I desperately need a pair of nice tan puppies. I recently had to trash my pair.

What is your favourite tan accessory? Or do you prefer black over tan? :)

Nice 'n White PLUS Update on my Weightloss Progress

'Twas a beautiful day left over from summer today. I wonder if there will be more in the next month or so? (hoping....) I did wake up quite late today since I was cleaning till almost morning, so I couldn't really make the most of the amazing weather.

Since I don't ever like being stuck at home during such weather (we have winter for that!), I thought I should go to the movies. More about that in aother post! :)

Oh and since I did extensive cleaning, my wardrobe is in immaculate condition now - I can see everything I own LOL and choose quickly to get ready in a jiffy.

My sis bought me a nice white cardi last week, and I thought I should utilise today's sunshine to wear it for the first time. :) I didn't want to darken it, so I thought lemme try it with my white jeans. :) But I did have to break it up a little, so I added a touch of soft pink instead of something bright/dark which would just scream against the white.

I definitely recommend soft pink and/or nudes with white as they mesh together very well in harmony. Very elegant colours together...

I will give you the photos before part II of my post (weightloss progress):

White Cardi: Target (gifted from sis)
Soft Pink Tank: Sussan
White Jeans: Katies
LV Scarf: Replica from edb Collection
Nude Wedges: Novo
Handbag: Gifted from sis (she sells these and I can't believe this wasn't sold!) :)
Bow Belt: City Chic

I know there are a lot of you who are fairly new to my blog, but if you want to read a brief account on my battle with the bulge, click away... So it's been 14 months since I have had my lapband surgery. After so long, I have to honestly say that I do not think it is for everybody. It is really really tough... even though some may think it's a magical tool that helps us cheat. If you think that is so, trust me, you need to think again... I have been sick many times... Not because of the lapband, but because of other illnesses (think flu, cold, etc.) which caused my band to be tighter during the period of my illness... which then in turn cause other illnesses such as heartburn, reflux, etc...

However, for me, it is worth it! I am so happy and proud to have finally gotten rid of 45+ kilograms (mashaallah, alhamdulillah). I do have some more to lose obviously, and pyschologically I still need to wrap my head around the fact that I am smaller than I used to be. When I look at the photos, I think "oooh nice, a skinny shot!". I never ever remember looking at a photo and thinking that BECAUSE I actually look as I see myself in the photo. BUT NO! To me, still, that is a "skinny shot", not the real me.

So yeah, I just wanted to share that with you also, because I gave some info some 5-6 months ago. :) Let's see how far I can go.. I think another year and a half... and I should be where I want to be inshaallah... the last 15-20 kgs are going to be the hardest and slowest. Wish me the best, okay? Because the fear of gaining the weight back is the biggest! I need your support... :)

Thank you lovelies.

Red Bow Cardi

You know how sometimes there are some items which you love as soon as you wear it in the fitting rooms at the shops? In fact your budget is so limited at that moment so you put it on lay-by (lay-away) even though you hate the idea of something you want so much sitting on the shelf, waiting for you to complete payments....

Oh God! That is exactly what I did almost two months ago. Then I finally picked up the cardi which I fell in love with, but it has been hanging in my closet, untouched for about three weeks! I just cant seem to like it on anything. I still love it on its own, but not with the combinations I form.

I am wondering, is it because I have lost a little more weight during the lay-by period that it does not sit as good as it did when I tried it two months ago??? Probably! Or probably I put it on layby knowing that I can't buy anything, so a layby will help me get some retail therapy? I have no idea!

So I threw it on today. Not quite how I imagined it, but oh well, saved the day! Next, I will try it with a skirt.

What do you think? Any suggestions?

Oh, and I think I'm due for a new pair of jeans!

Black & Beige on the Weekend

I need a beige jacket or even a cardigan. Why? Well, because if I had one, I would have worn that today instead of my black one! Check out the photos and you will know why... it would have looked better! :)))

Yes, it was a tad windy...

No, not picking my nose. My top lip was a little itchy. :)

Don't you just LOVE my skirt?!!!

It's my new favourite. Rush to Katies girls, or even go on their website and buy online! I do think the price could have been cheaper as it's quality is not the BEST. But the length, the cut, the print, it's all perfect! I purchased mine from Epping (you Melbournians know where that is!), and they had sold out - I needed a size smaller and the belt is what is keeping it up. Oh, and this skirt comes with its own black belt. I just swapped it for my beige one today as I didn't want too much black.

See why I need the beige cardi/jacket? :) I cannot wear a plain beige hijab, because it totally washes me out. Looks awful on me. So I must wear a black one. Hmmm and what happens when I wear a black jacket/cardi? Too much black! So I tried to balance it out with the beige/gold accessories.

Who thinks I need a beige jacket/cardi? Put your hand up :))))

You can't go wrong with black and red

Who says you can? Put your hand up and I wilk boink you out. :))) Joking of course.

I wasn't planning to go out today at all, but mummy dearest called so I couldn't resist. I can never resist my mum. :)))

I had nothing ready, so I just saw all black things ready in my closet... I thought a red and black scarf would do just fine for a non-ready day. :)

And here we have it...

Oh and the bag isn't mine. I just saw it in the cupboard and thought it would be good for the photo hehe. It needs to be photographed and put up for sale LOL. Well, it matches. So yeah, a matchy matchy outfit.

This was also an opportunity for me to try out the knot belt trend I have been wanting to try out for a while... I did not have anything that was long enough to try the look before, but wooohoo, I guess now I do! :)) So do you like this knot belt trend? Have you tried it? And why doesn't anybody send photos for me to share? :)))))

Earth Tones

Yes, I'm back to the earthy tones and neutrals... It's the weather I tell ya! The sunnier the weather, the brighter my outfits. :)

I wanted to wear my longer cardi, but it was not available, so I had to stick with the shorter one this time. And the hijab... well, it's a replica, and I was selling it, but I noticed a thread pull... so what better reason to keep it for myself?!

Oh, and my life conditions are changing, so I need to find a job. A job with regular pay, regular weekly wages. :) It doesn't matter if it's casual, part-time, or full-time. I prefer night shift (LOL) but wouldn't mind doing day shifts. Hmmm.... I seriously don't mind what type of job it is, I need the income more than I need my pride at the moment (another LOL), as long as the job and its earnings are halal... Oh and it must be in Melbourne of course. :) So if anyone knows of any position, please let me know. :)

I have teacher aide and religious studies teacher experience up my sleeve. I've worked as a freelance translator for 8 years, but I no longer want freelance work (regular pay I say!). I have a few years customer service / retail experience (in Turkey and Australia). I also worked as a media monitor(er) in Turkey for 4 years. I have temped as an office admin. I also worked as a checkout chick at Coles during my teens. Does that count? LOL

Sooooooooooooooooo plllllllleaaaaaaaaaaaase if you know anything, send me a message :)

Out in Town with the Girls

Lovely weather this evening... A little bit of warm sunshine before sunset... A soft warm/cool breeze at night... and five ladies at Notturno's having dinner topped off with amazing cookies n cream cake. Mmmmm mmmmm!!!

I might just post more of our night out later, but here is what I wore... I just wanted to look smart and casual for Lygon St (you Melbournians know what I mean). :)

Lucky I didn't opt to wear my heels (was almost about to!!!)... it sure would have been difficult to catch up with the girls on our walk into the city after dinner. :)

Oh, and I absolutely love these pants which I had picked up from Crossroads (sizes 8 to 22) a couple years ago. However, I was unable to wear them cos I couldn't fit into them back then. If anybody is interested, I believe I saw some in-store just a few weeks back. I believe it's their continuous stock and they also had it in grey.

Pink Bow Belt

Yes, I have a belt fetish. Most outfits worn without a belt, to me, seem... incomplete. I probably feel this way because the clothing items I use are usually more on the plain side. I do tend to wear the belt under my cardi/jacket so it does not make the 'shape defining' so obvious. My previous outfit featured the belt over my jacket, but it was a ladies only event, so yeah... Once again, I do try my best, and the best I can do myself to adhere to the rules, but I am aware sometimes it just isn't enough.

Anyhow... Every piece of outfit item in this post has been blogged before, BUT I have never blogged any of the items together before. So it's a mix and match day with my lovely bow belt. I think I have around 20 belts with my collection growing. I can't help it, especially if the belts are on SALE!!! :))))

No, I'm not picking my nose thank you very much! :))

I am S.A.D. today

Majority of Melbournians would agree that the weather here has been crazy the past few days... Majority in Queensland would agree that the weather there has been frightening with the disasterous floods in the certain region... Though we... specifically me, myself (ok... and I...) have been longing for some sun light to shine through. I hope to see some sun on the weekend inshaallh, ad regret returning to depressing, dark and gloomy Melbourne this week.

I have not been leaving the house since the day I returned. So when I received a "movie of the week" email from Hoyts Rewards (The Tourist is this weeks movie!), I thought it's an excuse to go out! I will be leaving soon to watch the movie... Hmm as you know, leaving the house is an excuse for... what?

Well, getting dressed of course! :)) However, my mood overtook me, and I dressed for the weather.. all dark and glum! Hey, is glum even a word? I can't be bothered checking it in the dictionary now, but consider it's edbictinary meaning to be: when one is gloomy and grumpy hahah

Love ya'll!

xoxo

Out 'n About in Sydney

Haven't been blogging since 2010! I've been longing to, but it just wasn't possible.

I've been relocating my shop. Then I went up to Sydney and was on the road for a week. Just got back around midnight.

I love to travel, but as much as I love it, it is sooooo darn tiring... It especially makes me uncomfortable that I can only wear what I take... No other choice! LOL

Sydney is beautiful... One of the most beautiful cities... I also love the weather... Unlike Mellbourne!!! However, I seriously would not want to live there. I got home sick in 2 days. :( The traffic is crazy!

We waited an hour to get into Bankstown Centro (shopping centre) car park, and waited another hour to get out. It was only Thursday! I didn't like much of what I saw at the shops... Probably cos I'm so used to Melbourne shops? So day 1, I asked my husband to take me around to the shops. There were some stores I particularly wanted to see, but I couldn't make it to Baraka Women which I really really wanted to visit. There were some online friends whom I also wanted to meet in person, but hubby's plans would not allow. :( I got to meet at least one of those friends, and it was like I've known her forever. :)) A great feeling.

I would love to one day have an 'blog/FB get together'. What do you think? Good idea???

Anywaysss I will be sharing photos of the beautiful places we saw in further posts, but for now, some of what I wore during my trip...

Roaming the city... wanted to look a little sophisticated LOL

This high waisted stripe skirt is currently my fave clothing item. It was the last one left at Forever New and it's not even my size. It's made of lycra (strechy fabric), so I thought if I can't get into it now, I will soon. :P So I bought it, and very very happy with my purchase. :))))

This amazing place is Bald Hill, Wollongong. Wollong is beautiful... will be sharing more photos later. My outfit is very basic. It was intended to be very comfortable for a very long road trip. :) I wore a cotton hijab which Turks usually wear at home. It's soft, thin, and light-weight, making it great for hot weather and long trips like this.

We drove from Sydney to Wollongong to Goulburn... a country town big on farming and sheep herding (I think that's what it's called?). So I had to have a photo taken in front of the huge Merino just before heading out to Melbourne. :) As for my outfit, you have seen me wear this Sussan tunic before. This time I wore it with jeans and popped on a cropped cardi as it was a little cool at night. Normally I'd wear a longer cardi, but had none with me! :)

Anyone else been travelling lately? Tis the holiday season, so Melbourne is empty!

Oh, and one of my readers from Sydney has emailed me photos of her version of my cake. I will be posting that too soon. :)

East Meets West

A little busy lately... and a little lazy...
Haven't really been leaving the house... so haven't been dressing up.
Holidays.. :)

I didn't end up going boxing day shopping. Never have!
Who did?
Did you end up buying anything?
If yes, what? :)))
I have always heard that it's a scam and never really worth it.
So tell me about it :)

Some things are meant to be worn over and over again...

You see, a few months back I walked into Sussan... and the first thing I saw was this navy dress... Love at first sight I tell ya!

To be honest, I am fussy with what I buy... and it's only because I know exactly what I want and love... So unless I see it, I will seem very fussy... when in reality I just know what I want.

This dress... I wanted!

My size was sold out, but it's made of excellent quality lycra. So I thought if I lose a few more kgs, I can get into it and look ok.

Well, I did lose a few kgs since I purchased the dress, but I didn't know what to do about the length. When I first bought it, I thought I would wear it with leggings. Yes fine, but when I tried it... it wasn't really the look I wanted.

So the dress hung in my wardrobe for the past few months (3 to be exact!). Every time I opened my cupboard, we would stare at each other... Until one day I decided to layer it with my black lycra skirt. A navy or dark grey one would have looked better (I tried white, wasn't too happy with it)... and you know what? I was quite happy with it!

Now for the top half... It's a sleeveless dress, so yeah a jacket or bolero type of thingy was required... Then I remembered another tie-front crop (lycra) cardi sort of thing I found at Chelsea months ago. I hadn't worn it yet because I didn't like the way it looked when I tied the front. It made me look much older and frumpier.

Anyhow, I had my dress and skirt on... layered... then I wore the cardi... as I was wondering what I could do with it, I wrapped one end around my waist and tied it to the other... just like a wraparound top.... Yep, I turned it into a wraparound top.

Altogether (to me) it seemed like a nice combination. I liked it so much and felt so feminine in it that I wore it a couple of times already within the past week. I received many compliments and many asked where I purchased the dress from -- thinking the entire thing was a one piece... when I told them, they were like, "forget it". :P

I have mentioned before that I don't like having to layer everything, but sometimes it works out great.

Ma ugly but useful feet in pretty shoes :)

Navy dress: Sussan
Stripe cardi: Chelsea
Skirt: Very old... gifted by mummy dearest
Shoes: Williams
Hijab: edb Collection

So what do you think? Did you like my combo?

New Buys - What to Wear it With

Wanted to go to mum's today, but she called just as I was about to leave home and asked me to come later. Apparently she was going to go plant shopping. Sheesh! What do I do with myself now?

She said it was going to be an hour or two soooo... I thought I will go to a shopping centre and browse around... I can't buy anything, because I don't really have any extra spendable $$$ at the moment...

Anyhow, was checking out City Chic since I was on their website the other day and saw a jacket which I instantly fell in love with. I wanted to see the real thing! :) Oh but I shouldn't have... because I ended up buying one of the last two remaining (only one left in my size).

Something else I wanted was one of their belts. Oh it is so cute and hot... Irresistable...

BUT I now have a problem... other than the non-spending money I spent... :) What am I going to wear this jacket with??? I have no problem with the belt. Put it on anything and it will instantly look hot! I tried it on a few things and was very pleased with the result. So no problems there. :)

As for the jacket... It has a gorgeous cut and fit. Contrary to what I thought, it does not make me look bigger despite the colour. At first I thought I may wear it with a nice pastel floral dress or something, but now I'm not sure. It looks great both buttoned and un-buttoned.

Please help girls. Any suggestions on how I should wear it? It sure looks great directly on jeans, but obviously that is not how I am going to wear it out... so I need hijab-appropriate ideas please. Help! Especially in terms of colours. Yeah sure it will look great on a soft/dusty pink... but anything else???

Here are the photos from the City Chic Website:

The jacket...

It has some beautiful lace detail in the mid section, collar and back shoulders...

Any ideas? I have a henna party coming up this weekend, so I might just wear it to that, but with what?

Over and out

A Blah Day

Hi dee hooo folks! :) Haven't done an outfit post for almost a week now... All because I haven't really been leaving the house much. Today I'm just going to visit mum and sis. So I used the opportunity to get dressed! Been bored of PJs all week. :)

Today was a really blah day in terms of weather and mood. So yeah getting dressed was an uplift.

Anyhow, here is today's outfit... soft pinks and all :)

Mwah

I love this hijab. It's actually one of the cheapo ones and I ironed a hole into one corner :P but I love it... So I hide the hole and wear it anyway! :))))

Get Out Those Dresses - Summer is Back!

Yes yes yes! The best weather ever mashaallah. I was so gonna wear jeans again today, but when I saw the sunshine... I thought this weather calls for a nice maxi dress... So out I took my Katies dress and my LOVE jacket :)) I wanted to wear a different hijab, but was already late for work... as usual, so I went with the safest hijab ever... plain black! Do you dare to disagree?! :)
