Turkish Brand Watch: SETRMS

Turkish brands have slowly started to release their 2010-2011 A/W catalogues online. The season was opened in September, but they prefer to delay their catalogue to prevent other companies from stealing their designs before they manufacture them. It's pretty common in Turkey, so I understand their caution.

Anyhow, there are a few brands I will be introducing in the next few posts, but today's brand is SETRMS.

The name comes from the Arabic word "satr" (meaning: cover, to cover...).

SETRMS is an Ankara brand. I've been observing and researching them for the past 2 years, but I only purchased from them (for my shop) last July. I like their style (even though some are really ewwwww) and quality. They have a very very large range in their showroom, but only display 10-15 in their catalogue for the reason above.

Before going on to the photos, I must add that I found Ankara brands to be of higher quality and classier than Istanbul brands. So I will be sharing more Ankara brands with you soon...

Here are some of my likes from the SETRMS 2010-2011 A/W Collection:

This is my favourite from the catalogue. I absolutely love the frill detail!

I do like the jacket, but I'm more interested in the shirt. Looks oh so sweet don't you think? :) But I hate what the photographer has done. So much for creative potography :/

Absolutely love this. I would love to see them re-create this style for their 2011 S-S collection using a different type of fabric.

I wouldn't wear so much white, but I love it. It looks nice and crisp... and cold :)))

The fur isn't so much me, but don't you just adore the pleats on the bottom? This looks hot though... even with the faux fur :)

I would not buy this in the faux leather look, but I would definitely consider if they tried out the same design in a different fabric!

Simple. Elegant. But I don't like the stunned mullet look on the model's face. I do talk too much, but c'mon! That's the first thing that strikes me when I look at the photo. :)

Nice. An Ankara Classic. Nothing more to say...

Has anyone tried SETRMS products yet? If you haven't then you haven't been to my shop yet LOL But nah, seriously, if you have tried any, would you like to share your thought and experiences regarding the brand/item you purchased from them? Also, which is your favourite SETRMS from this collection? Care to share? :))

Oh, and I also like how SETRMS chose to use plain scarves unlike their other competitors who use the print scarves. I think the plain ones look quite good actually even though I'm a print scarf freak myself. :)

What I Wore Today

I usually post "hijab only - profile" shots, but I have long been receiving requests from others to do "What I Wore" posts. Now, I'm not too keen on doing this, because I'm a little boring in terms of dress sense, and because like most women who have extra meat on them, I feel a little self-conscious. :) Oh and another major issue: I don't have anybody to take photos, and the self-timed ones (see below for example) do not come out as expected. :)

Aaanyhooow, this is a start, and we'll see how it goes. If I see that there really is a 'demand/need' LOL, I will continue to try and inspire fellow hijabis who also have some of that extra meat. :)

So here goes...

Long Vest: Armine 2009-2010 A/W Collection (from edb Collection)
Plain Black Top: K-mart --a bargain too! Got it at $5 AUD
Black Harem/Carrot Pants with button detail: Autograph
Black Wedge Shoes: Novo
Plain Black Twill Hijab/Scarf: Akel (from edb Collection)

I know, a little too plain and dark, but it's certainly what this weather deserves! Yet another cold and gloomy day in Melbourne. Cannot wait for the sun to 'spring' back into our lives oh so soon puhleeeaaaseee...

Mwahhh!

Hijab of the Week

This week, our hijab of the week is a gorgeous beauty from the beautiful Turkish city Bursa. Remember I had mentioned it in one of my posts a few weeks back? Well, I forgot to add that Bursa is world reknowned for its beautiful A class silk. So much so that a couple years back the Queen of England had paid a visit to Bursa to purchase some...

Anyhow, to the point... This weeks hijab is from a beautiful brand in Bursa, and they are famous for their traditional Turkish porcelain prints. The said porcelain designs (motifs) are inspired by those from the Ottoman era, which make them just that much more special.

This hijab is a typical square Turkish hijab, but I wrapped it around like a long rectangular one. I am actually really fond of this and I wear it with my peacock blue overcoat. I believe they go quite well. I can't wait until the sun shines in Australia so I can team this hijab with my said overcoat, and swap the indigo jeans for white wide leg pants (black ones will do just fine but I like white pants in summer). I have a short black sleeveless dress which I wear over my pants... so all I need now is a thin red belt!!! Now that is going to be a tough one 'cos it's just dang difficult to find plus sized belts in anything other than black! Ooohhh, can't wait for summer!!!! :))

Whoopsie, forgot the photo. Here you go...

Now, I know this is a very traditional pattern, but I'm going to ask you the million dollar question anyway. Anybody likey? I'm asking, because my mum says it looks like something somebody would wear to bed (i.e. nightgown). I beg to differ! So what do you think???
