Weddings Make Me Go Ga Ga

It's weddings and babies... They just make you go ga ga... I don't think it does anything to men. It's probably just us women and our idea of marriage.

It is true, most of us do imagine the fairytale marriage, the happily ever after. Otherwise why would you ever get married?... Other than the fact that it is sunnah (tradition of the Propher (PBUH) for Muslims?...

To us women, marriage is sacred, and the wedding is the door that opens to that fairytale(!?). However, a couple days later, you do realise that there is no such thing as the fairytale, and accept the reality and move on with married life. Sometimes it takes a while to adapt, sometimes one just accepts it without any problems at all... However, are we (married women) ever content with our marriages?

Yes, we may have lovely partners, beautiful children, a family to come home to... but did you ever really get what you imagined you would?

Anyways... I think this is probably why women tend to get emotional at wedding ceremonies. I saw that glitter in almost every woman's eyes on my table and the next (I can't observe everyone you know!)... It's probably because we, without noticing or subconsciously remember the feelings, the thoughts we had on our wedding day...

Hmm... Well, Z got married today. She was absolutely stunning mashaallah. The wedding ceremony was also a beautiful one which included some beautiful speeches by the fathers of the bride and the groom, a lovely sermon by an imaam/teacher... and for a change, reception food was good (thank you Serenity Reception over at Hume Hwy, Somerton). The meat/chicken was cooked well, the rice tasted like rice thank you! The baklava (Turkish sweet) was yummy, and the wedding cake was irressitable even on top of the baklava! :)) May Allah bless their marriage, their family, and bless them with a blissful marriage where they try to understand one another instead of trying to be right. :)

I know, too much text.. no good! :))

However, I have to note, I sat next to K.T. (you know who you are), who excitedly said, "oooh I read your blog". LOL That was cute. I mean, she was cute and it was a delight to meet her in person. She's the second reader I met in person this week. :) So I would like to use this opportunity to say: I sincerely love you all for the sake of Allah. I may not know many of you in person, but you are all truly special, each and every one of you. So the more you comment, the more I will get to know you. :) There are some of you who I have never met at all whether it be in reality, through FB, or through blog comments. So do drop a line one way or another. :)

Back to the wedding... :) All the guests looked amazing mashaallah. The young girls were all dolled up. I couldn't take my eyes off them all night mashaallah. However, I couldn't ask if I could take their photos. I knew 90% would have immediately said no. LOL

So here you have my outfit :)

The dress, as I mentioned in my previous post is the "something old" (even though it isn't lol but you've seen it on the blog), and my lovely frill blazer is the "something new". Oh and I've never worn this plain hijab before either. It was in my cupboard waiting to be worn with something navy... which I still need to do. :)))

The frills on the back of the blazer... I think it's real cute :)

I had to go with this colour.. because even though I initially wanted to wear a nude colour hijab, the colour just does not suit my skin tone. I look sick in it, so I went for this colour instead. I think I did well. What do you think?

Oh and last but not least, can you share what you had thought about marriage/weddings... and after the wedding, was it any different? Did you get what you expected? How did you adapt? I would love to read about it!

Z's Henna Party

Ahh a beautiful girl she is.. inside and out... very pure mashaallah... and she looked absolutely gorgeous tonight... mashaallah!

Tonight was her henna party, Sunday is the wedding... May Allah bless her with a happy marriage and family... May she be to her partner, what she expects of him, and vice-versa...

Well, I on the other hand was quite busy today. I have a huge sale coming up at the shop tomorrow, so I had to get them ready. Still not all ready, so I'm hoping I can wake up early to get everything ready before customers come in inshaallah. :)

I am so tired and sleepy... I thought I would share that important piece of info with you. Pray that I don't share any further details... about nature's calling etc etc... LOL

Yeah I know it's not funny, but I told you I was tired. See, now you can't blame me for being rude... or cute?... :)))

Anyhow... I seriously didn't know what to wear. Henna party's are the worst for me, because you generally want to do something different, as it gives you the opportunity to dress/look out of the ordinary since they are ladies only events.

I just did the same old same old with a small detail and a 'touch' of heavy eye make-up. LOL

Just a LBD with a chiffon shrug. I used a large brooch to tie the shrug at the collar to give it a different look and to jazz it up  a little. Looks a little more ordinary when the front is left open as it actually should be. :) I tried to wear black trousers under, but seriously looked awful. So I played it down a little with ma jeans. My black maxi would have looked awesome, but the cowl neck collar was not suitable for the style. I tried it the night before, so yeah...

My purple/black eye make-up with a dash of white to open up the eyes. The colours did not show up properly due to the flash.. and also because the eye-shadows were shimmery...

My niece Ayse's make-up (by moi) turned out really gorgeous. We used black and gold on the eyes and soft red on the lips... but once again, the photos do not do justice :/

These were quickly selected accessories from my stash. It's good to have a large range as you can just pick and choose whatever :P My shoes are from China. They are cheapos, but so hot and comfy, I love em! The heels did not come up in the photos, but they are gold. Hmm, my accessories were all silver, but I thought whatever, I am gonna wear the shoes as you couldn't really see the heels under my long jeans. :))))

A Sunny Day Deserves an Outfit Post :)

Didn't do much today. T'was my day off... Mum was making borek (Turkish pastry with cheese n spinach and also with mince... yummo). She called me over...

It was either trackies or wearing something decent. I saw the sun gleam through so decent won over trackies. :))

I purchased this top from Sussan not too long ago, but as soon as I saw it, I knew I shouldn't miss out. It has full length sleeves, it has a great length, and is very thin, making it perfect for summer. I also really like the colours. I have nothing whatsoever in this colour. If the print did not have any brown tones in it, I have no idea what hijab I would choose to wear with it... As I said, I have nothing whatsoever in this colour, so brown was my best hijab option. I have to say though, this tone of brown is my favourite. It's not too dark, not too light, and no reddish tones in it.

A Walk on the Wild Side

Some may find leopard print trashy, but I have always liked it. I can't really say I ever owned anything leopard printsy, but IN or OUT, I wasn't one to trash it.

Hmm... So today's outfit had to be a quick one, I had no choice. I went for my ever-reliable black maxi (every hijabi MUST have one IMHO) and plain black hijab (it was ready, ironed).

Then I though oh no this is too black. I must do something to jazz it up! What accessory better than a shawl to add colour to a plain outfit? I've had my eye on the leopard print shawl amongst my stock for a while now... but just thought, where and how would I wear it? I am not much of a shawl/rectangle hijab person, so I had kept myself from taking one for myself. :)

Anyhow, I threw it around my neck, and thought... Black jacket? But decided against it, because that would just look a bit too weird. Instead I went for my denim jacket and added a tan belt to it.

I think it turned out better than I imagined. I like this look. It's definitely one I am going to use with different shawls. :)) Oh, and my denim jacket is a cropped one, but I think this look would be mighty fine with a trench, close to the length of the shawl. Must try in autumn/winter! :))

On a final note, I think the shawl makes me look slimmer than I am. So ladies, stop focusing on your problem areas. Everyone has something they are not happy with about their body. Focus on what you wear and how you wear it. It makes a huge difference!

Relaxed... Turkish Style

It's very common to see the ladies in Turkey wearing thin/light and very bright coloured tunic tops over jeans in the summer.

I have had this bright green top hanging in my cupboard for 1 year now. You can instantly tell it's wog-style. :)) Nonetheless, I wanted to wear it one way or another. I couldn't wear it until now because it was too small, but I just love this green and knew that one day I will be able to fit into it. Alhamdulillah it happened. However, now I feel it doesn't really suit my body shape (after seeing the photos). I am a square/rectangle, which means I dont really have much of a waist. Therefore, shapeless tops make me look a little more bigger than what I really am.

Other than that, I was going to team the top with my white jeans, but they seemed too dressy or too much, because the weather isn't as sunny as it was yesterday, and I'm only going to the post office and supermarket.

After that was all done, the hijab was the last problem in the equation. I don't have any hijabs with green in it. I tried different colours but they looked funny. Then I remembered the set I made on Polyvore back in August 2009 (Click to see). I had used white, green, and brown together. Yep! Brainstorms were going off now. :)) I decided to wear a plain light brown hijab and to add tan shoes and bag to solve the problem. :) I think I did well for a casual look without making the bright green look trashy.

Long Time No See

I missed you all! :(( Had so much to do and been so tired.. Also this stupidha Blogger didn't allow me to upload photos for a week which was the icing on the cake. So yeah, I'm sorry for being so negligent.

What I wore today isn't anything special or crash hot, but it reminded me of an Armine dress from the current season. Obviously it's not the same, but the frill in the front looks almost identical. That is the only reason I purchased it, and also because it was only $19 at K-mart. LOL

Everything else I have on are from before and you have seen them before too. :) Oh, except for my scarf. It's an oldie, but I really love it. It's another silk Armine scarf, but from their 2009 Autumn-Winter collection.

That's about it for now, but I am going to start blogging about First Ladies around the world and their style. I plan to start with Turkey first.. not that I'm subjective or biased or anything lol...

A Dinner and I "Monochromed" Again

So how have you been? Great inshaallah! Personally, I had a stinkin' day even though the weather was lovely, but alhamdulillah I had a great night. :))

...

There's no such word as "monochromed", I know, but it works, and you know what I mean... So why not use it? :)))

Anyhow... I attended a lovely dinner event organised by an Islamic organisation tonight. It was actually an important event, but unfortunately some of the guests who were invited (well, let's say the majority) did not attend!

For the past few years in Melbourne, the Victorian Police and Australian Federal Police have been organising iftars during Ramadhan to invite people from the Muslim community. This is a part of their effort to understand and serve the Muslim community better.

To show the appreciation of the community, Imams around Victoria (some even made the effort to come from Sydney, South Australia...), Muslim business owners, outstanding people in the community etc were invited along with the Australian Federal Police, Victorian Police and the MP. Unfortunately I was the only Turkish woman (very small number of women!!!) and there was only one Turkish man.

Most of the Turkish community that was invited did not attend. This is largely due to the lack of unity amongst Muslims from different backgrounds (namely Turks and Arabs) in our community. It was sad to see, but nonetheless, it was a very beautiful organisation... yes, it did need improvement, but still, it was a lovely evening... which my friend and I ended with some narghile (shisha). :)))

Sooooo I could only take the photos after arriving home around midnight. Therefore please excuse the creases in my skirt :)

This outfit was originally my Eid outfit... which I was unable to wear for the occasion :( But I finally made use of it and wore it to the dinner tonight, and I think it was perfect for the occasion. :))

I was going to go for an off-white scarf with black print, but I wanted to go overboard :) with my accessories, so I thought the print would be too busy and possibly be a sight for sore eyes lol So plain black saves the day once again :)

Day & Night - 1 Day 2 Looks

So I had work during the day and an engagement party in the evening. I had no idea what I would wear - for day or for night!

Mashaallah it was the most beautiful and warmest sunny day since last summer, so I wanted to stay away from all black. I recently dug out a skirt I had purchased 7 years ago! I wore it a lot when I first purchased it, but had to put it away once I started piling back on the weight I had lost in the previous year. So I haven't been wearing it for about 6 years. I thought it would be a good idea to team it with tan accessories and a neutral scarf. I wore a summer scarf which is called "yaz ipeği" (pronounced yaz e-peh-ghi, meaning summer silk). It's not really pure silk, it is actually voile satin but the main composition of the fabric is polyester. Yeah I know too much irrelevant detail, but deal with it! :))) It is mainly produced in masses in Turkey during the warmer seasons as it keeps cool and prevents sweating. It's also the lightest fabric ever; so light that it feels like you have nothing on.

Anyways, yeah so I think I ended up with something that reminds me of a safari look. :)

After getting back home from work I didn't really have too much time to get ready for the engagement. I was obviously going to be late, so I tried to keep it as simple as possible. I opted to go almost all black and I knew I wouldn't be the odd one out. Majority of the guests usually tend to go for black at such occasions. :)

I wore a plain black maxi dress and jazzed it up a little with a pretty abaya kind of overcoat which I had purchased online... again... 7 years ago... I could have gone for a plain pink scarf to match the embroidery and lining of the abaya, but I don't have a plain one in that colour and anyways I thought it would stick out like a sore thumb compared to the rest of my outfit. :) So once again I went for a plain black scarf. I added a little colour with nude shoes, nude clutch, and nude ring. Eh, it was ok... I wasn't too satisfied, but I guess it saved the night without too much fuss.

I apologise for the photo quality as I took the photos after getting home and the room was a little dark.

My Favourite Accesasory: Pamuk

I had mentioned Pamuk here. She is now at home, where she should be... And she wont leave my side. By the way I think she's pregnant. We shall see in a few weeks.

The photos and outfit were meant to be about the skirt... It's different and so comfy... But yes, these photos rather seem to be all about her :) She makes a lovely accessory does she not? Well, not accessory, but you know what I mean. Yeah? I love her so much but she can be a real biatch sometimes. :)

Anyways, I wore the good old denim jacket once again. I haven't yet found the exact blazer jacket I'm looking for. And so here are today's photos...

I Need New Jackets in Different Colours!

Because I have added black to an outfit that was meant to be neutral... only because I didn't have any other colour jacket/blazer to wear. :( Sooo I'm going to be looking for some gorgeous buys in the upcoming weeks inshaallah.

The main clothing item for today's outfit is the natural coloured dress/tunic I wore here. The black jacket is a part of the eid outfit I never really had the chance to wear. The scarf is from my old shop stock (from exactly 1 year ago), and I got excited when I found it in storage the other day because I thought it would be a perfect match to this dress. The tone is slightly different, but I don't think it matters so much. Now, if only I had a nice jacket in sort of like a taupe colour, this outfit would have looked much better.

I'm still tired lovelies... too tired... and it shows on my face! My shop neighbour just looked at me in shock today and exclaimed, "what happened!" That sure made me feel good wouldn't say? :))
