edb does Turkish Style: Wog Girl :))

I now no longer wonder why the Turkish girls in Turkey generally dress the way they do: it's very simple to put together!

You just pop on your jacket/coat of your choice... Wear a pair of pants (most will do anyway as long as the colours aren't ew together)... and all you need to do is choose a hijab... choosing the hijab is not difficult especially if you go for a more plain colour combo in your outfit.

However... I also now no longer wonder why I do not do this style: I have no waist... well it ain't defined like most women... So a long jacket just makes me look stocky... box like at the centre because it is my body shape's problem area...

Anyway, I might do this style with slightly softer fabric which will flow right off my curves :)) Hmmm cut is also important... oh well we shall see together if I do rock a similar look in the future.

Love you! Kiss you! :)

The collar reminded me of the 70s, so I played around with the colour of the photo :))

Say "hello" Pamuk... :)) Mashaallah she is fine and dandy, but refused to say hi to you lot :)) Next time...

xoxo

Congratulations Winners

We're surprised and thrilled receiving all of your gorgeous styles with a white plain shirt. Really appreciate your enthusiasm with this quiz. Everyone who has been participating in this quiz is amazing. Unfortunately we cannot win everyone here. Hope this sound fair to everyone, we can only pick 2 sisters to win our great six quiz.

They are :
Wulandari Sofwan - Influential Berry
Great photos and we like the way she mixed it with the colorful flowery harem pants, such a daring experiment for a simple white shirt.
Restu Anggraini - Helgo Bonanza
She posted lots of style and we're surprised when we saw her playing with the white shirt and turned it into a cape, so creative.

In the end, how they mix the white plain shirt into something different, edgy unusual yet it is still casual and wearable, really amazed us. So congratulations.

To the winners, email us and we will set up more surprises together.
Thank you to all sisters who has been participating the quiz.
Stay tune for more surprises.

Masa kecik-kecik part II

Assalamualaikum

Masa aku kecik-kecik dulu, curiosity aku ni tinggi. Kiranya sifat ingin tahu tu memang dah sebatilah dalam dunia kanak-kanak aku. Tapi aku tak banyak tanya, sebab aku tau, kalau aku tanya pon mesti takde siapa nak bagitahu aku jawapan sebenar. Sume pakat nak ayam-ayamkan aku jer cis. Contohlah kan satu hari tu aku pernah tanya bapak aku.

ayah : pandai anak ayah.
aku : *tersenyum bangga* T___T

Terang-terang je bapak aku ayamkan aku wuwuw camni a...penat tau tak aku dok godeh tv tu, dok kenyit2 mata kat rongga-rongga tv tu sebab nak usha orang kerdil berlakon.........

Lepas tu kan, aku ni suka tengok tv. Aku siap berharap Allah tukarkan warna rambut aku jadi blonde, supaya orang putih keliru aku ni orang Malaysia ke America hahahahahahhahahaha loser!

Sesame Street yang aku dok tergila-gilakan dulu - pic courtesy of google

Ada satu benda la yang selalu bermain kat benak aku ni dulu. Kalau aku tengok cerita Sesame Street, mak kepada kanak-kanak tu mesti tak pakai tudung. Kalau aku tengok cerita Ultraman pulak, mak kepada budak-budak tu pon tak pakai tudung jugak. Tapi mak aku pakai tudung pulak. Aku pernah tanya mak aku kenapa dia pakai tudung. Dia cakap 'kalau tak pakai tudung, nanti Allah nampak Allah marah'. ooooo...aku angguk je la kan.

mak kat jepun tak pakai tudung - pic courtesy of google

Sebab konon tak mau kisah lama berulang lagi, aku pon takde tanya siapa-siapa kenapa mak-mak dekat negara lain tak pakai tudung tapi kat Malaysia mak-mak suma pakai tudung. Aku pon dengan pandainyelah membuat conclusion sendiri...

aku : Ibu, jom kita pindah luar negara
ibu : Kenapa nak pindah?
aku : Kalau kita duduk luar negara, ibu tak payah pakai tudung sebab Allah takde kat luar negara. Allah ada kat Malaysia jer. Dah besar nanti pon atin ingat tak nak pakai tudung (ada hati kau!)
ibu : LOL !

Pehhh malu doe. Aku seriusly ingat tuhan ada kat Malaysia jer sebab tu lah mak mak kat Malaysia semua pakai tudung sebab takut Allah nampak hahahahhahahahahahahha. Anyway, ada sesiapa pernah pikir macam aku tak? Tolong a kata ada. Jangan bagi aku malu sensorang......hehe. So moral of the story, kalau agak-agak tak tau tu, jangan lah segan nak bertanya. Bak kata pepatah melayu, malu bertanya sesat jalan. Dalam case aku ni, memang bukan sesat dah. Memang foul terus la kan -__-

Back to Work

First day back at work... Too much laundry to do... To much cleaning to do... Even the shop needs a good clean and a make-over... So I really couldn't be bothered going into too much detail choosing an outfit to wear. I just wanted to be presentable, but also no fuss.

So... I wore my purple maxi dress as a skirt and popped on my black jacket to add some formality to it. It was a no brainer as they were all ready. I can't say I am too happy with what I am wearing today, but it will take me through the day.. I only have a couple hours left. :))

What do you wear when you can't be bothered trying, but you need to look like you put an effort?

Mwah!!

Don't mind the flip flops; I wore heels when leaving home. :)

My Armine hijab and fresh make-up :P

My Baby Gave Birth

It was the day before I got back from China... My mummy dearest gave me the news on the phone: Congratulations... You have five babies!

I was experiencing both emotions at the once... I was vey upset that I could not be there for Pamuk during her delivery, but also over the moon that she was now relieved...

The first thing I did the following day after landing in Melbourne was to see her and her babies. It wasn't a very good sight... All five kittens were interlocked with each other via the umbilical cord... My baby was still too young and was unable to pull them apart... this caused them to stick together at various parts of their bodies. Two of them had lost a foot each due to the cord... I lost two of my kittens that day, and another the following day... I now have one that is missing a foot, but mashaallah he is soooo healthy and powerful... and I have one fully white baby just like her mummy... she seems fragile and weak, but she too is a fighter.

I was told that a younger cat that delivers babies may lose all her babies or only 1-2 may survive. So far, we have two... They seem as though they are going to pull through mashaallah... they are soo precious.

This morning as I was leaving for work, I saw the two babies cuddled up, and they reminded me of the Yin Yang symbol. :) Take a look...

Yin Yang

I don't know yet if they will have different coloured eyes like mummy as their eyes are still closed... I guess we will wait and see... :))

Sweet Sunday

We hadn't had any weekends together with the hubster for months... or even nights for that matter... due to his work schedule. Alhamdulillah we had this weekend to ourselves.... even though we slept most of Saturday LOL, Sunday was a fine day out...

Hubby was bored so he said let's go out to a nearby lake. Oh and I must add that the weather was awesome mashaallah!

So out we went in the afternoon. I got some sunflower seeds with me (we Turks love clickety cracking the seeds like birds going wild) along with a bottle of drink... nothing more...

We sat for a couple hours... enjoyed the views... the sun... the sunflower seeds... :)))) There were huge groups havng their community BBQs and get togethers. It started getting a little cool so we took off. We were meant to be going to the Arab Melbourne Eid Festival BUT we turned back from the entrance... It turns out that the entry fee was $10 per person! I was pissed off and could not believe it, so we left. I hope the Turkish Eid Festival entry fee next weekend is not as highly priced! I just can't imagine how much money (MINIMUM) a family of four would spend if they spent so much at entry?!! The food? The rides? Any shopping? Gee whiz! What has the world come to...

Anyhow, it was still a good Sunday. :))

As I had mentioned in a previous post, I am only used to wearing the square scarves the Turkish way... I feel weird wearing the rectangles, but when I saw this Fendi replica in China, I just wanted to have it... Nothing special.. I just like the way it looks and the way the colours mesh :)) The sunnies are also from China... they are supposed to be Roberto Cavalli, but now we all know (thanks to me LOL) that they really aren't :) Next I will show you my original Burberry sunnies... purchased from a Burberry store... but seriously... No bloody difference except the price tag!

Check out the background... So nice and peaceful... We were also able to spot some kangaroos sunbaking on the other side of the lake... you can't see them since the photo was taken with my iphone... the Nikon gets a little heavy to take everywhere...

A sweet Sunday moment deserves a sweet shot with the hubster... he can be sooooooooooooooooo damn annoying (like all other men), but ahhh... :)))

Travel: Shopping in China :)

Alhamdulillah! Got back safe and sound on Friday afternoon...

I don't want to drag the post, so I am going to go about it in point form :))

The Food

-Delicious.... NOT! Would not dare try it as nothing looked clean or edible.

-Every single person doing some form of work had a jar of (green???) tea with them to go last them the day. Some had weird little things floating in their teas... and yes, the jars were see-through :)

-We found a superb Turkish restaurant: Sultan Restaurant. It had an amazing menu which would appeal to anybody as it had a very large variety. Oh and it was halal, very clean, and the atmosphere was beautiful... very Turkish/Ottoman decor. :) I must add that the food I had there was the best I have ever had in my lifetime.. We ate there everyday.

-We ate once a day at the restaurant and snacked in the morning on some of the stuff I took with me from Australia. :)

-If you plan to go, I suggest you take things like cheese, olives, biscuits, crackers, etc. with you. Seriously, you might like Asian food, but I wouldn't want you to get sick! So don't risk it. Nuff said!

-Don't expect non-flat Coke anywhere. My Coke bubbles need to burst and splatter on my face lol. My drink needs to be ice cold in warm weather. They drink everything warm.. nothing is ever really cool and all their Coke including Maccas is slightly flat. Ewww! and ewwww!

Soooo full after eating an amazing chicken shish at Sultan Restaurant... just behind some of the best hotels and high class stores in Guangzhou.

Some octopus kebabs.. sunno what the other stuff is.. probably normal meat? no idea and don't care.. but I couldn't miss the octos :)

A shot from Sultan Restaurant. I wanted to show you guys the rooms behind the hubster. They have I think 6 rooms like the one behind him. All clad with divans (sofas) and a table set for six. Each 'room' has drapes coming down... a huge Ottomanesque oil painting on the wall, a grand chandellier above... they are like 'private rooms' but without doors. :) You feel special LOL

Again from Sultan Restaurant.... The walls are adorned with more oil paintings and Ottomanesque tiles... A must go-see for anyone who visits Guangzhou City in China.

The Crowd / Streets

-I am happy to say, even though it was still crowded, it was not as crowded as I feared. This was thanks to the 16th Asian Games (Olympics). There were some areas and times of the day where it was extremely crowded, but still bearable.

-The streets/roads are very clean.

-Flowers everywhere... on the bridges, walls... roads.... a very very veeeeeeeeery green city!

-There were like 3-4 bridges... one above the other (for traffic).

-There is a person/cleaner every few metres to keep the streets clean. Hardly any trash cans... so I was surprised at how clean everywhere was until I noticed the street cleaners. :)

The weather was so beautiful during the daytime... sunshine every day... One man told us that during his 12 year stay in China, this was the first time he saw the sky blue... Apparently some sort of bomb was thrown into the sky to ward off the dark clouds so that it is nice and clear blue during the 16th Asian Games.

High-rise buildings and towers everywhere! My hubby fell in love with this lyrebird made of flowers so he insisted on getting many photos taken here. :)

This cute little Chinese girl was sooo gorgeous and blended in so well with the background that we could not resist a snapshot. She felt a little shy being photographed by us, but as soon as we started to walk away, she gave awesome poses to her parents' camera. :)

See the two uni students holding up the OK-thumbs up sign? They will be holding those signs up in every street corner and traffic light for the entire Asian Games (58 days or something I've been told?). It was said that the sign means "may your life be a-okay.. have a happy life where everything is thumbs up"... something like that anyway.... but soooo many uni students paid to do nothing but hold up that sign in their assigned corner every day. :)

Another day... but he is still obsessed with that lyrebird... but it is gorgeous is it not? :)

My hubby and the gigantic buildings... Nobody to be seen because in this area, nobody starts work before 10am! At 9:30am you see everyone walking to work like soldiers... then at 10am nobody as they are all where they should be and getting ready to open shop... Some areas open up around 8am, but they sleep on the steps, on the floor, at the desk, or whereever they can find until around noon or until someone asks them something... they are active around 11:30am.. then when the clock hits noon they are busy eating in the middle of their shops/stalls... then their most active times are after about 1:30pm to 6pm. Very different...

The People

-OMG - No offence!

-If I ever plan to travel to China again, I will think twice about the length of my stay!

-Spitting heaps of mucus filled spit (sorryyyy) right in the middle of the road, on the stairs, on the escalators...

-Burping in your face...

-Knocking you out of the way as if it's normal. :)

-Blowing out their nose into the air... I mean no tissues, no handkerchiefs.. nothing... press one finger to close one nostril, then blow out anything and everything that exists in the other nostril... one guy did this for 10 whole hours on the plane back to Australia... so I tried to be asleep most of the way... at least until each time I was awoken by his snot blow session.

-I love how when they are going to present you with money change, or anything like paper, cards, etc, they hold it with both hands, bow their head and present it to you with such respect...

-Some are soooooooooooooooo sweet... too sweet.... and some are not... I think this is probably due to the lack of communication/English.

-Majority of the people (sellers) do not speak English... not even a word... those who can speak only speak those words which they have memorised... if you say anything different they will just keep repeating the same thing :)

-They stare!!!! Too too toooooo much! I was expecting it, but some went too overboard! When I notice some, I would just turn and cheerfully say Ni-Hao (hello) and they would respond back, smile and walk away :) Some would poke the person next to them, point at me, say something, and continue to stare LOL and SOME would walk down a step on the never ending stairs on the roads, turn back and stare, take another step and turn back and stare again... I was almost gonna attack a man for exaggerating the stare thingy so much. :) I have a threshold to my tolerance too you know. :))) Then he finally walked away when I yelled and make hand gestures at him haha

The Shopping

-OMG OMG OMG!!!

-Seriously OMG!

-I want to buy everything!

-They have very high class stores and very cheap stuff too. So you don't just say "made in China... rubbish". Some are really top notch.

-Shopping in China isn't what we... who have never seen China.... expect it to be!

-If you buy wholesale... say 1000 pieces of the exact same product, you will get it cheap. :) But who needs 1000 pairs of the exact same knickers in the same colour? :)

-If you buy one piece of one item, you will not get it cheap... especially if it is really good quality...

-Personal shopping is great, but seriously go with heaps of cash, cos you will regret it :P I bought myself a couple brand bags... One imitation and one original... Originals purchased from original designer stores are cheaper than what you would find at the same designer store in Australia. I couldn't buy too many as Australian customs no longer allows a passenger to bring down more than 3-4 pieces of designer/knock off items (3-4 bags, 3-4 pairs of shoes, 3-4 clothing items... etc) into the country. So you need to be careful as they will all be confiscated from you and you may face hefty fines. I have heard that some people were lucky, but seriously not worth the risk! I purchased some scarves for myself also and a few t-shirts for the hubster. That's about it... You have 30kg baggage allowance when leaving Australia, but only 20kg allowance when leaving China.. So yeah... :( and your bags/weight get checked like 3 times until you board the plane! Someone paid $1000 for an extra 10-15 kg... so not worth it!

There is an entire high-rise building dedicated to designer brands... Even the store cleaners look like store managers lol

This is a scene from Beizhing Lu (Beijing Road)... Very much like our Melbourne's Swanston Street Walk... No cars allowed... just shops and people... It's open until 10pm. There are also "underground shops". They aren't literally underground, but when you get to Beizhing Lu, men with photos of designer products surround you, trying to lure you to their hidden warehouses/shops. We told a few to buzz off then let in to one... Boy do I regret it... The only place I got ripped off... A woman can get carried away you know! :)) The standard stores throughout Beizhing Lu are fine. Some good quality things priced accordingly, some cheap products priced according to their quality. We did buy a few non-branded items from different stores... it was quite fun actually :)) Very different system of selling products :)

This is also from Beizhing Lu. I was dressed up a little as it was Day 1 of Eid. We went out for a nice dinner then hit Beizhing Lu for some "sight-seeing" and shopping with the hubster. :) This is a small shrine kind of thing, but we just barely got this photo as everyone was standing around to take photos. Some just jump in when others are taking photos... so a bit was cut off :P

We are towards the end of Beizhing Lu... it is a very long walk, so we turned back half way LOL hey I had heels on! Did not expect to go shopping at night :) He looks dumbfounded :)

Now here is something else... If you take a close look, you will notice all the shoes on the fountain behind me. I am a shoe freak, which is why I had to have a shot taken here... however, the shoes... now there are different types of shopping in China... some places are specific to certain items only. For example, one town is full of shoe shops/plazas. One town all bags and leather accessories... One for just clothing... One town just gifts and jewellery... One for just electronics etc ect... So you have an area as big as a suburb just shops... that cater for certain industries only. So if you go alone, do not speak Chinese, do not know anyone in China, you may be in some trouble. Anyhow... back to the shoes.... the plazas here made me go out of my mind.... super crazy gorgeous shoes! and soooooooo many of them... I swear I coud have easily purchased 50 pairs! They were irresistable... BUT I couldn't buy even one pair because this place is apprently for order/wholesale only... so I was required to order approx. 500 pairs in the exact same shoe style and colour. :( Not happy Jan!

The Touristic Sites

-Unfortunately was not able to see anything except for the shops... I will inshaallah try and make the effort to go and see historic and touristic sites in China....some day in the future inshaallah.. really sad but it's very difficult to get around... especially when one cant find a taxi between 4pm-7pm...

Masa kecik-kecik dulu..

Assalamualaikum

Masa kecik-kecik dulu, aku ni jenis pendiam tapi lasak dan suka main luar. Dulu aku ingat bila dah besar nanti aku akan jadi athlete tapi tak rupanya -___- Dulu masa kecik-kecik, aku suka giler beli mainan Ding Dang tu. Walaupun Ding Dang ni obviously dia macam Doraemon-wannabe tapi versi kampung, but at least dia merupakan satu fenomena kat seluruh tanah melayu pada satu ketika dulu * osem!*

pic courtesy of google

Ding Dang ni nampak macam loser tapi power dow. Setiap kali mainan baru kua, dia akan advertise kat tb. Power tak power? ala-ala macam hotwheels skang la kan. So masa kecik-kecik dulu, lepas balik ngaji sementara nak tunggu pukul 8 malam (pukul 8 malam adalah waktu membuat homework dan tidak dibenarkan sama-sekali untuk tengok tb! kalau curi-curi tengok nanti tali pinggang naik kat belakang) aku mesti duduk depan tb tok tunggu iklan Ding Dang ni. Serius suprise giler apa mainan yang so in at that time hahahahaha. Lame giler kanak-kanak 80's ! Lepas dah dapat tengok iklan Ding Dang, pastinya kat sekolah esok, everyone akan bercakap pasal mainan latest from Ding Dang. Saling tak tumpah macam gosip hangatlah kan.

a : engkau tahu tak ding dang dah keluarkan mainan terbaru semalam?
b : yeke? alamak semalam mak aku tak kasi tengok tb sebab kerja sekolah aku tak siap lagi. boleh engkau bagitau apa mainan terbaru dia?
a : kau jangan terkejut kalau aku cakap ni. tapi memang best
b : berdebar-debarnya aku.
a : mainan terbaru dia...... adalah pistol pasang sendiri yang boleh terbang-terbang!
b : bestnya. balik sekolah ni kita mesti mendapatkannya!

* T___T dialog sampah rekaan aku semata-mata haha! *

Tapi kalau korang perasan, mainan DingDang ni selalunya korang kena pasang sendiri. Kiranya, dia bagi mainan tu dalam plastik, pastu korang kena guna kepandaian akal korang untuk memasang mainan tersebut. Budak lelaki selalu pandai bab-bab ni sebab imiginasi dorang tinggi. Budak pompuan memang loser giler, dah ada manual pon tak boleh nak follow wakakakaka aku la tu. Biasa aku suruh abg aku pasangkan jer. Tapi dia mana nak layan aku kan. Cis. Dulu budak-budak laki poyo & double standard sebab tak nak kawan dengan budak pompuan. Kalau abg aku main dengan budak-budak taman  sampai maghrib, nanti mak aku suruh aku panggil dia untuk balik mandi. Terjerit-jerit la aku panggil dia suruh balik tapi hampeh jangan arap a dia nak layan aku. Konon tak layan budak pompuan a cis cis takpe kau bang.

Anyway tu cerita dulu la kan. Skang ni aku tengok budak-budak tak reti de nak main mainan cenggini. Mainan kau seketul dah same harge dengan external hard disk aku. Tak boleh belah seh kanak-kanak sekarang. Main plastesin nak playdoh jer, aku dulu main plastesin yang rm0.70 sekotak tu orait jer. Pegi universiti gak aku. Ahhahahhaha macam takde kaitan jer. Anyway, satu hari tu, aku tunjuk a kat asfiq (adik aku yang dajah satu sekarang ni) mainan Ding Dang konon nak berkongsi kegembiraan. Tapi selamber je dia cakap

'Itu bukan mainanlah kakak, mainan macam robot Megatron adik ni. Eh, kenapa muka dia tiru doraemon, mesti MADE IN CHINA !'

.................... belagak seh engkau kanak-kanak zaman 2000...mentang-mentang zaman milenium....

HFW Day 6 - Lovestoned / Date Night with Future Hubby

Assalamualaikum

I prefer not to dress too impressively  if I were going out with my future hubby. Why? First because men don't understand fashion & they literally don't know what's in & what's out now. Second, I will certainly not happy if he praises me because of my outfit, not because of my look teehee. Thus, here is what something I'm gonna wear ;) Basic colors and minimal layers. But still, look presentable.

Harem pants, a blazer and a single layer of shawl. An effortless way to dress elegantly ;)

HFW Day 5 - Flavor of the weekends

Assalamualaikum !

I always love weekends :) I got to spend my 'me-time' without thinking about the presentations, learning issues & stuff. Nothing much, just an ordinary weekends. But hey that means a lot to me! I got to do groceries, go to salon to get some hair treatments, watch my all time favorite series 'How I Met Your Mother' & do some laid-back medical-related readings :)

So basically, jeans would be my favorite during weekends! Yeah yeah, just so you know that I can't put on jeans to class :( And yes, spot something adorable? its the LACE people! What's more feminine than a piece of lace? Pull off the ordinary jeans with a white double layer laced blouse & a cardigan - simple yet suffice to make you one lovely human being. * exaggerating * LOL

more weekends wear at modestytheory.blogspot.com!
