Big girls are beautiful...

If you need to shop for plus sizes like myself, then you too will know how hard it is to find something that you feel comfortable in. Especially if you are a hijabi!

Now, there are actually more plus size options available than there used to be about 5-10 years ago, and these options have become more trendy in the last 2 years. Well, this is true for Australia. I don't know about the other countries, but I know that despite being known for pretty and trendy clothing, Turkey sucks at plus size clothing. They have a couple of designer labels for plus sizes, and they are even more expensive than what we pay here.

Ah yes, the prices! The difference between a size 16 and a size 26 top is like 10-15 cm I think. Since the difference is sooo HUGE (I'm being sarcastic), we are charged about $20.00-$30.00 more. The price difference goes up to $50.00-$100.00 if you want a nice evening gown.

Hmmm, never knew that 10-15 cm difference could cost so much!

Anyhow... We like to look pretty too! We would love to wear gorgeous clothing too! I especially hate it when they use standard size women to model plus size clothing... as much as I hate it when particular hijab labels in Turkey use only uncovered models to showcase their designs. They sell clothing for hijabis at their stores, but when it comes to the catalogue, they have the scarves around the model's neck, chest, etc. Hey, I'm not against a few photos like this, because if I didn't wear hijab, I would definately use scarves as accessories. I think it adds class to an outfit. But people, we need to see how the design looks when we wrap it on our head, don't we?!

Well... I did go off the topic. Anyway, I have created a plus size set using clothing from plus size stores. The dress is from IGIGI. They are pricey, but I really do love most of their designs. They sell online, and you can view their catalogue at http://www.igigi.com/

The cropped jean jacket is from Dream Diva, and they too sell online. I should note though they aren't cheap either (surprised? I don't think so..). You can view their catalogue at http://www.dreamdiva.com.au/

A little bit about the style...

I used a maxi dress that is ever so popular with hijabis. They look so glam, don't you think? I used this particular empire waisted style, because empire waists are a litlle loose around those love handles and hips, so the dress just skims down without emphasizing the fat bits. :)

I prefer a cropped jacket with a style like this, because if it were any longer (on the hip or waist) it would make a person who is already big even more larger. However, do note that if you wear a thin, flowing cardigan, that would be fine. I am talking about the more thick/stiff fabrics in this case. I wouldn't wear a knit or lycra type bolero with this if you are bigger than a size 16-18, because that would just stick to you, and also not too hijabi-like.

Anyway, too much to mention, but I don't want to bore you. :)

The hijab in the photo is mine. They sell at $8.00 AUD and you can click on the EDB Scarves & Designs link to the right side of the page if you would like to check out the range. I am currently advertising and selling through Facebook, but a website is coming soon inshaallah!

Oh, and please do not wear a black undercap with the scarf as I did. Since the dress is a dark grey, you can wear one that is dark grey, or if you can find it, use one similar to the colour of the hijab... perhaps a shade lighter.

For the shoes I chose sandals, but heels would look great with these dresses too. Wear sandals or heels depending on the occasion. Also, make sure you have a pair of gladiators this spring, they also look fantastic with the maxis!

Enjoy...

Mucux! :)
