Hijab Fashion Week - Day #3: Work Out Wear

Yup! Today is the day I totally embarrass myself. :) I mentioned on Love HFW's Facebook wall that this is the category in which I will look like a homeless person. :) I was actually going for a homeboy (rapper) or college dropout boyish look... but somehow ended up looking homeless! LOL

Anyhow, I usually go to an all ladies gym, so I don't fuss too much about what I am wearing when working out. However, when working out (going for a jog or power walking) outdoors, a hijabi needs to fuss somewhat over her hijab. Firstly, most workout wear is not modest enough. Secondly, I do not really like wearing a huge trench coat or something while trying to workout. It feels uncomfortable.

Online stores like Ahiida (hijabi sportswear and swimwear) and Islamic Design House (their main specialty is sports/casual abayat) are good sources of things to wear when working out outdoors. However, I have none. :)) So I made use of what I had... Jersey harem pants! I would definitely wear these for walks and jogs outdoors. However, I think they may be somewhat dangerous for bike riding. :)

And theeeen I popped on my Capsters Basic style hijab (you can read my review here and view other looks), and threw over my hoodie to achieve the look I was going for (don't forget, it's winter in Australia, well first day of winter is today :) which is why I am so rugged up).

Now, you can't really wear full on joggers/sneakers under harem pants. That would just look ridiculous me thinks? :) So what else, what else?? Hmmm, Converse! Yup! Converse it is. :)

So it's quite basic actually. :) I'm just missing my fingerless gloves/mittens. That would totally achieve the homeless look, yeah? hehe

Yo yo gangstaz, w'sup? I know, I drained it once again. LOL

Oh! Don't forget to get clickety click the Love HFW button/link below for more and more awesomeness looks. :) Mwah!

Moon heads

Dunno why, but something about this dainty mailbox really gets me everytime I see it..hehe..

There's this little detail of mine, which I can't seem to understand how or why, everytime with a capital E, I go on a vacation overseas, I alwayssss or at least must once get a flu. Which I so happen to be experiencing now.. =.=

Btw, here are some random pics of the sky taken from my phone while walking around town. Yeah, I might have looked like a weirdo walking while not watching my steps. Ah well..

All images in this post are taken using my iphone4. Cool huh? Almost equivalent with a real camera shot.

Bad dream

.............................

Assalamualaikum everyone! today i'm being so careful not to mess up with something.

Why?

Because last night I had a bad dream. a kind of unlucky dream. My mom said that my dream means I'll lose something important. but then again she said to me that I don't have to believe it either. But my dream was soooo real that makes me afraid that something bad will really happen to me today.

So, I decide to wear trousers instead of maxi skirt because it gives me more space to move. If all of sudden a thief attacking me, I'll throw my wedges to him and ran as fast as possible. Just like on a movie. hahaha

.............................

btw, sorry i can't tell you my dream about because it was really YUCK to read. I don't want you to say Ewwww while reading this post. hehe

Hijab Fashion Week - Day #2: Formal Attire

So today's category is formal attire. We were asked, "What would you wear to formal event?  This can be traditional/cultural events, black tie event, weddings, etc etc."

I have not had the chance to attend a formal event in yonks... literally! So I do not have much suitable for such an event. Therefore, I chose to attend my own henna party. :) Why? Well, that is like the only over the top dress I have. I also thought it would be an opportunity to do up my hijab to give an idea to those who may need it.

Now, I had to cinch the dress with pins all over at the back as I weighed a lot more on my own henna night (five years ago). So that's why it really doesn't sit as it should.

I should also note that, although very simple, the dress is my own design. I drew it up, and my tailor did the sewing. :) My original hijab style was different, and it was done by someone other than myself as I didn't do hijab styling back then. I have to say I wasn't too happy with it, because even though the style was a nice one, it was very wrong for my face shape. I didn't really have a say in it as it was the first time I saw what hijab styling actually is. I had not seen any designs prior to my own henna party. So the stylist just did it up as she desired.

So, important tip for those who may be getting their hijab styled anytime in the near/far future: make sure you google various styles well in advance or even ask your stylist if she can show you any of her work. Check out the face shapes and what styles look best on certain face shapes. Because no matter how gorgeous the style is, if it aint gonna suit you, you aint gonna be happy with your photos. Trust me!

The style I used for this occasion is an Ottomanesque one... it was inspired by the head-pieces that were worn by the Sultans (the women in the Royal Families)... As I mentioned many a time before, I find them to be more elegant compared to the bunched/scrunched up ones.

Oh, I shall be doing a post on tips for hijabis planning to have their hijab styled for certain occasions soon. So make sure you follow my blog! :)))

Okay, this has been too long of a post for HFW, so I shall stop at this, and share the photos for today's category: Formal Attire. As I mentioned above, my outfit is more suitable for my own henna party, or an engagement/wedding of a very close friend or family.

Check out the leopard print platforms (from this post) peeping out from under ;) I wanted it to be slightly different to the standard strappy evening shoes. :)

Perempuan nafsu 9 & akal 1.

Assalamualaikum

Biasa tak dengar orang kata, lelaki ada 1 nafsu & 9 akal manakala perempuan pula is the other way around. Yeah you heard me, perempuan ada 9 nafsu & 1 akal.(Ada orang kata hadis ni tak sahih, but lets just pretend like its true) Okay kalau dibaca sekali imbas memang akan rasa macam pathetic gila orang perempuan. Kasihan, perempuan itu kelihatan macam pandai, bijak, cerdik but actually dia ada 1 akal jer. Tengok perempuan tu suci dan lemah lembut..but eventually dia ada 9 nafsu. Haha!

But things don't work that way buddy. Bila cakap pasal nafsu, it can be broad. It can be anything that require lust. Wuwuwuwuw.

Perempuan ni pendirian dia sangat tak tetap. Tak stabil. Ibarat macam jetski yang dilambung ombak ketika air pasang. Hari ni dia kata lain, the next day dia kata lain. Walaupun dia kata lain-lain tapi we expect you guys boleh terima bulat-bulat. Kalau tak boleh terima, kitorang akan marah. Haha! Cool bukan? Tak dengar cakap je marah. Hee.. Itulah specialnya orang perempuan, we are allowed to marah-marah like crazy once in a month without being scolded back. (Thanks for the uncontrollable scientific-proven hormone!)

Lepas tu, orang perempuan ni cepat sangat terpengaruh. I mean like real cepat. Contoh paling senang adalah fashion. Ok contoh sekarang adalah musim Harem pants. Maka bergegaslah mereka ke Times Square ini jam jugak untuk mencari Harem pants (TS murah sikit hihi). Lepas tu Harem pants dah tenggelam, keluar pulak Tapered pants. Ah kene pegi balik TS untuk beli Tapered pants! Ga keren lho kalo ga ikut peredaran fashion! And the list goes on. Disebabkan orang perempuan suka pakai baju ikut fashion, kadang-kadang ada certain baju tu dia pernah pakai sekali dua jer. Yelah musim dah habis, takkan nak pakai baju tu lagi kot. Nanti orang kata ''You're so 2007 duhhh~'

Bila tengok orang dok pakai clog, beriya kita cari clog yang sale sekitar mall di KL. Bila tengok orang pakai makeup, kita pon nak jugak walaupun kita tau in the end kita akan pakai sekali dua je make up tu sebab segan. Bila tengok orang pakai shawl Hana Tajima, kita pon nak jugak jadi Hana Tajima walaupun muka kita tak sesuai pakai shawl tu. Bila tengok orang pakai vintage dress, kita pon beriyalah bersengkang mata cari online shop yang ada jual baju vintage. These are the commonest examples that I could think of. I know well cuz i'm a woman too.

Kepuasan? Tapi aku tak pernah puas pon. Makin aku berkorban, makin aku terkorban. Eh apa aku cakap ni? Hahahaha but yeah i hope you got my idea. Kau takkan pernah puas kalau kau keep on comparing yourself with others. Orang ada kita pon nak ada jugak. Orang takda, kita nak ada jugak. Abih bila masa je yang kita takda ni? Eh apa yang ada apa yang takde ni. Aku ni suka melalut sampai dah terlupa apa aku nak cakap sebenarnya. Cis.

Semakin aku dewasa ni (eceh!), aku cuba untuk tahan nafsu dari benda-benda macam ni. I mean, aku cuba kawal diri daripada terpengaruh dengan orang lain. Walaupun orang pakai shawl fancy2, aku tetap dengan syria murahanku =') Yeah, mula-mula rasa macam segan giler aku sorang je yang pakai jeans & syria, semua orang pakai maxi skirts & shawl HT like sangat cantik kottttttt. But then I get used to it. Just confident dengan diri sendiri. Doesn't mean kalau kita tak ikot fashion sekarang kita tak ohsem kan? Aku adalah contoh manusia ohsem kahkah. (Tampar mahu ga?)

Macam makeup pulak, dulu aku pon sibuk jugak nak pakai makeup bila gather dengan kawan-kawan, konon-konon taknak rasa macam being left out la kan. Semua orang pakai makeup takkan kau sorang je datang dengan muka plain? Nanti nampak macam you are not belong to that group. (That's what I used to think before). So aku ni kaknam sibuk nak pakai eyeshadow & mascara bagai, lepas tu bila nak solat dah susah. Kena pakai remover and all. Buang masa je. Lepas tu kena pakai balik makeup. Benda 10minit dah jadi 30minit. Tak cerita lagi part lilit shawl bagai =')

Tulah benda-benda yang buat aku rasa penat. Sebab nak impress orang punya pasal, then I got to sacrifice alot of things. Dulu aku okay je, but now aku rasa rimas & menyusahkan. Well benda ni depends kat individu sebenarnya. Kalau semua orang fikir macam aku, then takdelah fashionista didunia ni betul? Haha. Bosan lah pulak dunia ni nanti. But apa yang aku nak cuba sampaikan adalah, kalau kau rasa benda tu macam tak bagi benefit kat kau, then don't do it. Kalau kau rasa kau buat semua benda ni sebab nak setaraf dengan kawan-kawan kau, then you got a big problem. Benda ni tak sihat sebenarnya, sebab korang walaupun berkawan tapi sebenarnya korang adalah lawan. Korang macam bersaing-saing  sapa pakai baju lagi cantik and stuff bila meet up walaupun secara amnya korang adalah goodfriends. Jangan cakap tak, at least korang mesti terdetik sedikit jealousy. Perempuan kan memang suka envy. Thats the fact.

So the best way is, kurangkan stalk fashionista. Jangan salah faham, aku suka tengok fashionista jugak, but sometimes you just gotta do it. Bila korang tak stalk, korang tak tau fashion terbaru, lepas tu korang pon tak beli haha! Anyway diorang kan fashionista, dah bidang dia disitu, of course la dia kena pakai latest fashion hee. Yang kita orang biasa-biasa ni tak payah lah kot nak berusaha sangat nak jadi macam diorang. Just keep things moderate. Kadang-kadang simple is more kan? Tapi kalau nak jugak, terserah kamu deh sebab minat orang kan lain-lain.

Lepas tu kenalah kuatkan iman dan tinggikan paras konfiden dengan berbisik dihati ayat sebegini 'AKU CANTIK WALAUPUN TAK PAKAI MAKEUP AKU CANTIK WALAUPUN AKU PAKAI BLOUSE DENGAN CROCS JE' Korang kena ada konfiden, tapi janganlah terlebih sehingga menjadi riak pulak sampai bila jumpa fashionista kau pegi cakap ' Hello aku cantik je walaupun tak pakai baju macam kau'. Itu dah melampau. Memang aku pergi simbah acid kat muka kau haha! Anyway, bila kau ada konfiden kau akan rasa 'I am pretty just the way I am' lepas tu mesti kau tak terpengaruh dengan orang lain. Cool kan macam tu. Hati kau tenang, duit kau pon selamat dan yang penting, kau tengah belajar menahan nafsu haloba. Its a good thing right =)

Betullah nafsu dia ni ada 9. Air pon dia order 2 gelas isk isk.

p/s : Berfashionlah ikut kemampuan kamu. Tak salah kalau sekali sekala nak bershopping, nak pakai makeup cantik-cantik, tapi jangan sampai overboard. Peringatan ini untuk diri sendiri juga. Aku pon pernah buat silap dan Im learning from my mistakes =') Kita kan manusia. Biasalah kan. Marilah girlfriends kita belaja untuk terima diri sendiri dengan seadanya!

Hijab

WE LOVE HIJAB LOVES : WORKWEAR BY SETRMS UK
Every woman has an I’ve-got-nothing-to-wear-to-work day now and then. But, I think that Muslim women have it the hardest. Why? Because we have to find clothes that are clean, professional and modest enough to wear to work – and then we’ve got to find a hijab to match. I’m sure that many of you working women know what it’s like to find something halfway modest in your closet – for example a sleeveless tunic – only to realize that the long-sleeved t-shirt that you normally layer it with is in the dirty clothes bin…
This brings me to one of the reasons why I love the new fashion franchise called Setrms UK. While most designers sell suits that feature jackets and skirts that are too short to be hijab-friendly, Setrms UK offers long jackets and long skirt-suits that make it easy for a Muslimah to get dressed without having to worry about layering, mixing, and matching.
Some of my favorite items of Setrms UK’s first collection are their long jackets. The one pictured above is called Tulin and I can imagine wearing it in several different ways. You could wear it to work by pairing it with wide-legged pants (as shown above). You could dress it down by pairing it with jeans and a t-shirt. Or you could wear it with a simple maxi dress.

A Hijab can be worn in so many Trendy or Traditional ways, here I will try to display some of my favorites in the hope to add many more inshallah in the near future. I will display Shawls, Square scarves & Amira Hijabs.

HOW TO WRAP A SHAWL:
New Wrap Style#1:

  • Start by placing a full underscarf on your head as this style requires neck coverage. Or you can use a regular underscarf and wear a turtleneck
  • Place shawl on you head with end much longer than the other
  • Pin the shawl to the underscarf on both sides of your head near where your brows line ends
  • Bring longer end of shawl loosely under your chin and wrap it around above your head and re-use same pin to secure in place
  •
