A great night out with my loved ones...

No, I don't really celebrate mother's day... I cannot always buy my mother gifts, but other than our own special days, I do try and make her not feel left out. Unfortunately we do not gift out mothers enough... ever! So I usually tend to get her a gift a week or two before mother's day, but she expects me to say "Happy Mother's Day" on the day at least. LOL Well, it makes her happy, and I don't mind, because I treat her with love and respect (inshaallah.. I try to anyway...) every day. We have our cuddle sessions with pecks on the cheeks every day (mashaallah). So yeah, to me, it's what I do for her every other day, and thank Allah, the Creator for blessing me with such a mother...

Anyways... A mother's day fun/dance night (for ladies only) was organised by one of our most popular local female DJs, Kafiye abla (abla (pronounced aab-lah), meaning "older sister" --- out of respect, we call our elders "abla", and if they are much much older, there are other nouns, but I shall leave it at that.. enough linguistics for one post). We danced and dined the night away.

I usually try to make it to most of these events cos I am never invited to a wedding (all my friends are married.. well, almost all.. and their children are still too young... so I went to a total of 3 weddings in the past 8 years). It's ladies only, and I can get all dolled up as I wish, and dance dance dance. YES! I LOVE DANCING! LOL

So tonight, it was my mother, sis, aunt, niece, cousin, and other beloved family friends on our table... along with many beloved friends on other tables. Full house it was! And to our suprise, the food actually tasted good (that reception usually has a bad reputation with regards to food). It was the standard roasted chicken with rice and boiled veggies. Oh and the dips were simply amazing! I didn't mind eating, cos I think I danced off all the calories LOL

Well, to cut it short, it was a lovely night, mostly due to the company... I love my small family... and our very small group of true and special friends... Most of us enjoyed it... my cousin wasn't too happy and was sleepy haha she left early... but it was good catching up with her.

oooooh one more thing! All the women and girls looked smashing mashaallah. No photos as I was too busy dancing and checking everyone else out hehehe but yeah, most were stunning :)

I wore a jumpsuit for the first time. However, I did feel very insecure as they were not the wide-legged ones, and cos I think you actually need to be in excellent shape to look good in them. I did get a lot of lovely compliments which made me feel a little better about myself. So I thank those lovely people for their kind words. Love you!!!

Yes, I know you are all sick of seeing my maxi cardi, but you see, I can't do without it! :) If this jumpsuit was a wide-legged one, I would definitely have worn a cropped jacket or something, but I had to hide all the definition and wobbly bits in the back and sides.. if ya know what I mean! :)

My one and only, dearest, beloved mother. May Allah bless her and leave her with us for many many more years to come... inshaallah

I love these shoes. I initially wore these, but my mother talked me out of wearing them. She knows I'm gonna dance all night, so she suggested I wear something more comfy... and so I did! :)

My make-up.  My lippy was actually softer and nude. This was after a touch up. I started off with the smokey eye using charcoal and black, but then I decided I wanted to add something to make it a little different than what I usually have. I saw a burgundy-ish/plummish eyeshadow in the box and thought it would look nice teamed with grey and black... and guess what? I was happy with the result :)

Here's a close-up... I know, it's dumb of me to state the obvious, but I just felt like it hahah

Hijab: Fake LV (from edb Collection, Maxi Cardi: Asos, Jumpsuit: Country Road, Shoes: Zu, Belt: K-mart

So, did anyone else do anything special this weekend?

Smokey Eyes or Smokin' Eyes? :)

I just realised that I hadn't done any make-up look posts for a while... sooooo the other day I was too early for work, and guess what I did? I played with my make-up! :)

I always go for the natural look, especially since I ain't going anywhere, so I thought why not do something different? I had the colours, so I went for the smokey eye. I was embarrassed all day at the shop.. I can only imagine what the customers were thinking about this crazy woman with full on make-up, but oh well... they are only women, so I didn't think too much about it except for the fact that I was conscious of my heavy eye make-up each time ladies walked in. :)

Actually, it could and should have been darker, but I opted to use dark grey instead of full on black which I absolutely love... Peeps, invite me to a hens party or wedding! Duh! It's Ramadhan! :))

Eyeshadows were all Inglot... Nothing beats it! Would not budge all day... Don't mind the eyebrows :)
Eyeliner is MAC's jel pot
Mascara is my latest favourite, Max Factor False Lash Effect
Foundation is Bella Pierre's mineral foundation in Ivory which I always get compliments for
Blush is Inglot, but can't remember the colour code

The full picture... I opted to go totally nude/natural on the face as the eyes were already dark enough for the day... I also wanted it to blend in well with my hijab, which I think was a success :)

Little Long Note: I had a request a while back on make-up courses in Melbourne/Australia. I am very sorry about the delay, but here is some brief info:

If you are interested in just basic skills, you would probably benefit from attending a one on one 2-3 hour session at an Inglot store or even better, Gorgeous Cosmetics. Inglot offers the 'course' at any store you visit. You need to pre-book and it costs around $90 AUD. The best thing about it is that you can ask specifically for what you want to learn, and in the end your course fee is redeemable on products. So at the end of your session you are able to choose $90 worth of cosmetics/tools of your choice to keep! Gorgeous Cosmetics has a similar offer, but you would need to call (see their website) for the full details.

If you want to do a full on course with certificate and all, then I would strongly recommend The Academy of Make-up. I have looked into their course structure, spoken to someone about the courses they have on offer... and basically you can choose how much detail you want to get into. To be honest, the price is quite high, but government grants are available. They have open days 2-3 times a year, so if you call and have your name taken down, they will update you and send you invitations for any open days that may take place.

I'm not an expert, so that's all I know to pass on.
