Final Outfit for 2010 - Head to Toe Stripes

It's past midnight here in the land down under, so we are officially in 2011. :)

Firstly, wishing you all a wonderful new year full of ibadah, happiness, and extra cash of course. :))

We don't really celebrate NYE. It's just an excuse for a family BBQ. :) This year it was all the girls and my brother in law.. plus my two nephews... The boys went to a friends house in the neighbourhood watching illegal fireworks all night... brother in law sa inside and watched TV... we women were in the alfresco area... it was such an ugly hot day. I mean, I love summer, sunshine, and warm weather, but this was something different. A very hot strong wind blowing all day.. and also some humidity...

Anyhow, boring boring boring... :))) Nevermind, it's the last time I will bore you in 2010. :)

A little about my outfit...

I was working today, so I came home to get dressed and thought I will do a little extra and doll myself up a little. It's a family night, so it's fine. :)))

My main piece is the head to toe sailor striped maxi dress I purchased from Sussan. To be honest, I did not even try it on. I just know I have been admiring it for a couple months. I have been feeling really down the past couple months and it's a little worse the past couple weeks. So I thought of treating myself. I said I will take it whether it looks good or not.

You know the 'myth': stripes make one look bigger. I think today I have once and for all proven that this is purely a myth! It really depends on the fabric, the way the clothing hang off your body/curves, and most importantly the thickness of the stripes. The thinner the stripes, the better!

I really thought this was going to be a disaster purchase, but I have already planned 2 different looks for this dress which I may wear this week. :))) I love the dress.... I'm also addicted to stripes lately. This week I purchased 2-3 tops from K-mart at $5 :P All stripes! I purchased an amaing high waisted skirt from Forever New also with stripes! And this dress... I have to stop!!! :)

Hmm I really didn't want to wear the deep red hijab I always wear with my navy clothing items, but I did it again! I know you are sick of it :) It's getting worn out too! I really like the way gold looks with nautical navy, but it just don't suit my face and I find the standard red too red (but Im going to wear the standard red hijab soon with this dress)... So yeah, I'm sorry but deal with it :)

Finally, I shut up and post the photos... :))))

xoxo

(P.S. Anyone play words with friends on iPhone? My username is WogGurl, so we can play if you like. :)) Just note that sometimes I am very slow and may not reply until the following day)

I think the stripes actually make me look a little slimmer, don't you agree? I'm a happy camper! :))

Even though fresh, natural look make-up would look better, I just went for dramatic smokey eyes with pale face instead. :)

Polka-Mania

I have just noticed that I have been going polkadot crazy. I actually used to hate polkadots with a passion.. until this year... Now it seems that every hijab I pick up to wear has polkadots.

Yeah sooo whatever. :) The weather is awesome down in Melbourne today. Mashaallah. So yup, I had to go out... to mum's! :) Not too far, but it's an excuse get dressed. :)

My OOTD can be used as an inspiration for a day at the office... at uni... or anywhere really , but I think that a white shirt always reminds me of school or office work. So you can do whatever you like with it. I'm a real sleepy head today and feel drowsy. So I'm talking nonsense.

I will just post the photos and get it over and done with. Happy? You happy = me happy. :)

I tried something a little different on top today. Initially I had the buttons of my shirt all done up... but then I played around with my belt a little... and remembered an open shirt and cardi look I saw on Michelle Obama in the past. I thought yeah why not! I tried the belt over both layers, but because I have a thick waist (and body LOL) it just didn't look good. Then I though I can try the same look just under the cardi which would also allow the cardi to sit loose over the cinching of the waist and the belt. However, one thing that I would change about this look would be WEAR a longer cardi, and WEAR a straight line skirt. It would definitely look better. Ballet flats would look awesome under such and outfit as would kitten heels.

Pink Cardi: Sussan
White Shirt: Katies
Skirt: made by Me, Myself, edb over 6 years ago :)
Hijab: Armine (from edb Collection)

East Meets West

A little busy lately... and a little lazy...
Haven't really been leaving the house... so haven't been dressing up.
Holidays.. :)

I didn't end up going boxing day shopping. Never have!
Who did?
Did you end up buying anything?
If yes, what? :)))
I have always heard that it's a scam and never really worth it.
So tell me about it :)

A Sunny Day Deserves an Outfit Post :)

Didn't do much today. T'was my day off... Mum was making borek (Turkish pastry with cheese n spinach and also with mince... yummo). She called me over...

It was either trackies or wearing something decent. I saw the sun gleam through so decent won over trackies. :))

I purchased this top from Sussan not too long ago, but as soon as I saw it, I knew I shouldn't miss out. It has full length sleeves, it has a great length, and is very thin, making it perfect for summer. I also really like the colours. I have nothing whatsoever in this colour. If the print did not have any brown tones in it, I have no idea what hijab I would choose to wear with it... As I said, I have nothing whatsoever in this colour, so brown was my best hijab option. I have to say though, this tone of brown is my favourite. It's not too dark, not too light, and no reddish tones in it.

Enough about that! Now for the photos... :)

Tunic: Sussan (from their Resort collection - generally to wear over bikinis lol)
Linen Pants: Katies
Bag: Forever New (gorgeous bag but crap quality!)
Shoes: Forever New (again, gorgeous, but crap quality!)

If anybody is interested, I have one more left in this colour at the moment. Priced at $9 AUD... advertisement brought to you by edb Collection. LOL Sorry :))))

We are happy after eating my mummy's delicious borek. I swear, I only had a little bit. :))) But seriously, it was worth over doing it! :) How cute is my mummy dearest? The cam quality aint as good in this photo because it was taken on my iPhone.

A Walk on the Wild Side

Some may find leopard print trashy, but I have always liked it. I can't really say I ever owned anything leopard printsy, but IN or OUT, I wasn't one to trash it.

Hmm... So today's outfit had to be a quick one, I had no choice. I went for my ever-reliable black maxi (every hijabi MUST have one IMHO) and plain black hijab (it was ready, ironed).

Then I though oh no this is too black. I must do something to jazz it up! What accessory better than a shawl to add colour to a plain outfit? I've had my eye on the leopard print shawl amongst my stock for a while now... but just thought, where and how would I wear it? I am not much of a shawl/rectangle hijab person, so I had kept myself from taking one for myself. :)

Anyhow, I threw it around my neck, and thought... Black jacket? But decided against it, because that would just look a bit too weird. Instead I went for my denim jacket and added a tan belt to it.

I think it turned out better than I imagined. I like this look. It's definitely one I am going to use with different shawls. :)) Oh, and my denim jacket is a cropped one, but I think this look would be mighty fine with a trench, close to the length of the shawl. Must try in autumn/winter! :))

On a final note, I think the shawl makes me look slimmer than I am. So ladies, stop focusing on your problem areas. Everyone has something they are not happy with about their body. Focus on what you wear and how you wear it. It makes a huge difference!

So what do you think?

Have a very blessed Friday, and a great weekend inshaallah!

Over and out

Get Out Those Dresses - Summer is Back!

Yes yes yes! The best weather ever mashaallah. I was so gonna wear jeans again today, but when I saw the sunshine... I thought this weather calls for a nice maxi dress... So out I took my Katies dress and my LOVE jacket :)) I wanted to wear a different hijab, but was already late for work... as usual, so I went with the safest hijab ever... plain black! Do you dare to disagree?! :)

Anyhow, yeah the photos... :)

Have a lovely weekend peeps... Melbournians, this weather is cherry picking weather... anybody go? Lemme know if the cherries are nice. I want to go soon too inshaallah :)

Colour Me Pink & My Hubby's Reaction

I worried over nothing it seems, because minus the time it took me to iron my clothes, I found what I was going to wear in 2 minutes. I chose to wear a mini linen dress and pink cardi I purchased on the weekend. I actually wanted to leave it for later since the hijab I wanted to wear with it was hanging at my shop... but there was another I could make do with.. and since I did not want to waste my time (got up later than planned.. as usual...) I went with it.

Oh and I was not meant to shop, but I was depressed, so cut a woman some slack! :) I have my reasons.. I needed retail therapy... Who doesn't? :)

Anyways.. Hubby did not know about my purchases... He wasn't meant to...

Hubby works night shift during the week and his sleep pattern usually doesn't change on the weekend. So he was up all night, but he needed to wake up early for an appointment today.

So I got all dressed and tried to wake him up...

Me: Ismail... Ismail... wake up... Wake Up... WAKE UP... WAAAAAAKE UUUUUUUPPPP...

Him: Zzzzzz.....

Me: Huuuuuu! Get up! You are late! Heeeeyyyyyyyyy!

Him: Zzzz....

Then he tosses over to face where I'm standing, and slightly opens his eyes...

Him: Oh fk!... (He also murmurs something under his breath)

His reaction was at my new items. LOL When he saw the bright pink cardi, he knew right away that I had been shopping hahahah

But did he wake up? Nope... He just asked me to buzz him when I get to work (eventually he woke up)...

Yeah it was a funny moment... May not sound so funny to you when reading it :P But it was funny. Trust me! :))))

Back to the outfit...

I tried to go for cute chic today... The style is probably a bit too young for a woman of 32 years of age, but it's a fun and no fuss look that is all about comfort. :) Oh and my husband who has been telling me off for wearing black and brown for the first 4 years of our marriage is now not so happy that I incorporate colours for the last year and a half... He says I'm too old for pink... Hmmm...

Really? I know the pink is a little out there... but am I too old for this colour? I feel maybe another 3-4 years I can do this tone of pink... What do you think? Does it look hideous on me? I'm confused... I like the colour, but always get influenced by what the hubster says regarding this colour.. maybe cos I'm not too sure myself?

Mwahhhh

I had to do this shot.. with one arm on the mantlepiece :P Please don't mind the unorganized mess on the mantlepiece, I have not yet gone into the decoration part of the house :)

Just for fun! :)) My matching slippers... I wore my tan peeptoe shoes to match my fake tan Gucci bag :)

Love is.... My New Jacket

It was my hubby's B day (capital B cos he's turning 36) on Tuesday... So what better excuse to go shopping? I needed to buy him a pressie... but what did I end up ding?... The obvious. Of course! I bought pressies. For myself too! :))))

One of the pressies I bought for me is the hot safari jacket I am wearing today. I am absolutely in love with it. Not my sister though... She says it makes my boobies look like they're gonna pop out. Well, I can't help it if they gave it a deep cleavage... At least I wear something inside... Anyways... My lovely jacket and only one of the many outfit combos I dream of wearing it with in the near and far future...

Do you like my jacket? How would you wear it? Give me other colour options to wear with this jacket? Pweaaase? :)))

Jummah mubarak my lovelies... Enjoy the weekend inshaallah! :)

xoxo
Wog Girl hahahah

Just fixing my belt... :) While Pamuk takes a short stroll around me... she never goes too far from her babies... how cute :)

Check out the cloud filled sky... and it's week one of summer next week... argh Melbourne weather just kills me.. but we do need the rain as that's what we Aussies live on... rain water...

Safari meets Military Jacket: City Chic -- for those of you plus size ladies who still haven't tried City Chic... you are missing out big time... Seriously! Prices are a little high end but still affordable... when you first look at their stuff it looks a bit too revealing because they usually have the clubbers and youngies chics in mind when designing (my personal opinion), BUT look behind the lines! There is just so much you can do with an outfit someone may use to reveal... you can use to cover... :))

edb does Turkish Style: Wog Girl :))

I now no longer wonder why the Turkish girls in Turkey generally dress the way they do: it's very simple to put together!

You just pop on your jacket/coat of your choice... Wear a pair of pants (most will do anyway as long as the colours aren't ew together)... and all you need to do is choose a hijab... choosing the hijab is not difficult especially if you go for a more plain colour combo in your outfit.

However... I also now no longer wonder why I do not do this style: I have no waist... well it ain't defined like most women... So a long jacket just makes me look stocky... box like at the centre because it is my body shape's problem area...

Anyway, I might do this style with slightly softer fabric which will flow right off my curves :)) Hmmm cut is also important... oh well we shall see together if I do rock a similar look in the future.

Love you! Kiss you! :)

The collar reminded me of the 70s, so I played around with the colour of the photo :))

Say "hello" Pamuk... :)) Mashaallah she is fine and dandy, but refused to say hi to you lot :)) Next time...

Back to Work

First day back at work... Too much laundry to do... To much cleaning to do... Even the shop needs a good clean and a make-over... So I really couldn't be bothered going into too much detail choosing an outfit to wear. I just wanted to be presentable, but also no fuss.

So... I wore my purple maxi dress as a skirt and popped on my black jacket to add some formality to it. It was a no brainer as they were all ready. I can't say I am too happy with what I am wearing today, but it will take me through the day.. I only have a couple hours left. :))

What do you wear when you can't be bothered trying, but you need to look like you put an effort?

Mwah!!

Don't mind the flip flops; I wore heels when leaving home. :)

My Armine hijab and fresh make-up :P

Spring Fresh

Mashaallah. What beautiful weather! Such weather always calls for some effort on my behalf, because I MUST go out in beautiful weather to soak up some sunshine... even if for a short while. :))

Today, I wore the lightest colours ever in my life without a single piece of black. Very neutral... but it' an accomplishment for me as there seriously is no dark colour... even though I considered wearing indigo jeans instead of the white. :))

I also have a close up of my cat Pamuk... this time you can see her different coloured eyes. :) Say mashaallah please. :))

I thought I would give you a different view this time. :)) I saw that there was no one outside, so I quickly took a few snapshots at the side entrance of our house. Is the garden not beautiful? I wanted to share a little bit of that with you. Thanks very much to my landlord's father who takes care of the front garden with diligence.

My new twill hijab from my new range. :) I thought it went well with the neutral outfit. :)

Pamuk! My Queen! She is preggers and if I am not mistaken, due in a couple weeks. See the diamanties on her collar? :)) Oh how I am hoping and praying that she does not go through labour before I get back! I am dieing to see the process and be there for her. :)

A closer look at her eyes. One green and one blue eye.... Yes, they are real! :))) Say mashaallah :)

So what do you lovelies think? Should I stick to black and darker colours? Or occasionally give lighter colours a shot? :) What colours do you usually wear/combine? Is there any colour you just can't do/go without? :)

xoxo

Simple. Casual. Easy to Get Ready.

Another "Oh shoot! I'm running late!" day. So I had to make getting ready as simple as possible. The skirt was ready and hanging neatly in my closet. The jacket is new :P and the hijab I wore yesterday, so they were all ready to pop and for me to pop out.  :)))

I don't usually wrap my scarves like a rectangle one, because I don't think it really suits me. I am more comfy wrapping it the usual Turkish way. Oh well, I said I'm going to be a little different to usual today and did not look back.. in the mirror... cos I know I would wear it the other way LOL

Oh and something else I really need is a pair of flat gladiators or sandals to wear under skirts. I'm just no longer a fan of flats... well I love some of 'em, but I've had spurs on my heels for many years now.. and after some treatment they aren't as bad alhamdulillah. Therefore I try to wear something with a heel on it most of the times. They don't hurt as much then.

Anyways, here is my outfit of the day...  Nothing crash hot, just as the title implies.. :)

Do you like my new denim crop jacket with frills? :P I am getting mixed responses from family, so just wondering what you think? Ew? Or eh? Or nice? Or yeah that rocks my world? :)) It's really comfy and cute. Also I couldn't actually find any jackets anywhere. Most of them were sold in all sizes except for 6-8-10 :P

This is my square silk hijab. I wore the identical print in a different colour on Friday remember? I love these sorts of prints. They are usually inspired by the motifs that were used on tiles etc. by the Ottomans.

Hijab: Bursa Ipek (from edb Collection)
Denim Crop Jacket: Sussans
Skirt: Senera -- purchased over 2 years ago, but couldn't fit into it then :)

Same Hijab, Different Look

I had planned on taking mum and making two necessary visits this evening... but when the unexpected happens, you change plans! :) I was a little bored and sis was invited to a henna party, so she called me too. I wasn't going to go, but I thought I'm already dressed to go out (even if not dressed ENOUGH for a henna party LOL), I might as well.

I was there for a couple hours at most... It was okay, but I guess I had so much fun the night before that this time I just couldn't be bothered going off on the dancefloor. I did dance... of course! :P But yeah normally wouldn't leave so early.

Anyways, here is what I wore:

The same hijab I wore for yesterday's day look.

I know you are sick of this jacket, but I wear it once a week. It just meshes so nicely with most of my clothes, what do you want me to do?! :)))) I prefer to wear something I purchased every week, which means it is a buy I do not regret haha Ahhh but I am pleased to tell you that I have purchased 2 new jackets :)))) Still looking for my PERFECT jacket, but yeah these will do for now. I drooled over an Anthea Crawford jacket today, but I thought paying $400 plus was a bit over the top... even if there was only 1 left in my size... self-control! :)))))

Yes I am a little obsessed with these shalwar dresses. It's similar to the one I wore last night (see previous post), because this one is also from Chelsea. :P I now regret not buying a plain grey one LOL

Oops! No shoes or slippers! Well, I don't wear shoes in the house like almost every other Turk. :)) But if mum saw me stepping on concrete floors without slippers, I would not hear the end of it. My God! :P Oh and I wore tan shoes to match my belt. I know I didn't match my bag, but who cares, I think it's ok :)

What do you think? Do these dresses have to go or do you think I sorta make them work for me? :))) Seriously? My mum and hubby hate em and everyone else have pretty much complimented on them. So please help. :)

Hijab: Akel (from edb Collection)
Shalwar Dress: Chelsea (from Essendon DFO)
Bag: Nine West

Love. Hugs. Kisses. :)

Tonight... All You Can Dance Ladies Fun Night

So I got home from work around 5:30pm and had to be ready by 7:00pm because the sis, the niece, and I plus a friend needed to get to the ladies dance night. I like events like this because I don't really get invited to henna parties or ladies only weddings. All my friends have gotten married and raising their children. So I guess they wont be getting their children married off for another 15 years. My God! If Allah wills I will be 47 by then, and I don't think I would be stuffed much with such events.

Whatever... To the point... I purchased a couple gorgeous dresses (IMO) from Chelsea today, so I didn't worry at all about what I was going to wear. BUT, despite having over 1000 hijabs for sale, and despite owning over 50 hijabs (I give away anything that is good but which I no longer use or throw away what has gone old.. I don't keep scarves for too long... I don't like clutterring stuff I don't use.. waste of space and waste of time especially since I move at least once a year LOL), I had NOTHING to wear with the dress tonight (may Allah forgive me). Nothing would do... I tried on 5 different hijabs, but in the end I stuck with the first one I had tried. Argh! Don't you just hate when that happens?

So, I am now in love with this dress (I never have or keep or buy anything I am not in love with) and it is soooooo comfy, but yeah I wasn't too happy with the hijab I wore. I looked for my plain grey one, but could not find it. I didn't want one that had too much blue or navy... so just made it even tougher for myself.. I guess it wasn't too bad but not what I really had in mind. However, the scarf on its own is gorgeous I think. :))

What do you do when you are not happy with your choice of hijab for the day? Would you still leave the house with it or turn back and change it even though you know you are going to be late for that important appointment? Do you stick with it until the end of the day or do you take a spare with you and change it later in the day?

Personally, I myself have on occasions taken a spare :) I have turned back despite knowing that I will be late. I have also stuck with my wrong choice and avoided seeing myself in the mirror all day long. :))

And here are some photos... :) xoxo

The Make-Up. The Hijab.
Make-up is my usual evening colour. I didn't want to go bright blue, but I used a very dark blue grey for contouring the eye. You can't really tell from the photos but it turned out nice if I say so myself. :P

My new fave dress. Sorry about the bad photos. We took them outside in the dark, and they didn't come out too good because my niece couldn't keep her hand steady in night shot mode which causes blurry photos. These were taken in auto mode. So yeah whatever :)

The bag seemed to go well at home, but these photos show me that it doesn't look as good as I imagined. :)) Oh and the dress looks better in real life. I am going to post the same dress some time in the near future cos I'm surely going to be wearing this a lot this year LOL but this time in better light :)

Now this young lady is a very special one. She is my landlord as well as my friend. Our friendship is quite new, but it is one I hold dear to my heart, because she really and truly is a special being mashaallah. Oh and she is one of the most stylish hijabis I know. She has the funkiest skirts and most gorgeous jackets.

How hot is her jacket?! I also love the top. Oh yeah she too was dancing away all night. :)) So girlies, I think having a few gorgeous jackets in your wardrobe is a great investment! I need jackets!!!

....and my one and only niece... if you are on my FB friends list, you will recognise her from some of my hijab photos. :) I hve a top very similar to this one which I team with jeans or white linen pants and a cardi. great colours for summer!

Today... well, it's yesterday in Oz now :)

It was a beautiful day today. Mashaallah. Always love days like today. We are almost into summer and we still turn on the ducted heating at night. :( For someone who loves the sunshine and warm weather so much, turning on the heating system is just very depressing in spring!

I know I always sound like the weather forecast, but it's a fact, the weather definitely influences my mood. I'm sure it is so with many of you. I think I have SAD.

Annnnywaaaayyyy... Such beautiful weather deserves some photos yeah? :))

My cute new denim shoes from Katies :))

If you are an old follower, you should remember this top/dress from a couple months back :) I am still looking for a nicely cut, hot jacket to wear on top of this. A nice cropped one. Anyone know where I can find something nice?

And this here is one of my favourite plain satin scarves. I absolutely love this tone of red. I call it red, some may call it burgundy. Same s**t, different smell :)) Anyway, I love this scarf... don't you? :P
